Healing Nutrients~Tree Barks

Name:      Apple tree--Pyrus malus

Parts used:     Fruit, bark

Effect:    The fruit acts as a diuretic, and is laxative in nature. A tea made from  the bark is an old fashioned remedy for gravel in the bladder. Good for the liver, spleen, kidneys. Eases a toothache, helps digestion  and is used in diabetes. Allays nausea and vomiting. Use for suppressed menses. A strengthening tonic it helps counter hyperacidity. Apple pectin excellent product, helps the body to get rid chemical toxicity.

Name:    Beech--Fagus ferruginea

Common names: American Beech, Beechnut Tree

 Parts used:    Bark and leaves

Effect:    A tea from either leaves or the bark is beneficial in stomach troubles, ulcers, liver, kidneys, bladder and diabetes. Antiseptic in nature both internally and externally, used to bathe open sores or wounds in both man or animals. A strengthening tonic.

Name:    Birch--Betula lenta

 Common names: Black Birch, Cherry Birch, Mountain Birch

Parts used:    Inner bark and twigs

Effect:    A tea from the bark or twigs is beneficial when used for the intestines and also expels worms. Is used for stones in the kidneys and bladder, rheumatism and   gout. Acts as a  stimulant. The tea is good to bathe or treat any open wounds or sores. Purifies the blood and is a cleansing and stimulating tonic.

Name:    Black Willow--Salix nigra

Common names: Black Willow, PussyWillow

Parts used:    Bark and buds

 Effect:    Great aid in reducing fevers and relieves pain. Helps in joint pains, reduces inflamation and swelling in joints. Good  influence on sexual organs, helps with incontinence.

Name:    Butternut--Juglans cinerea

Common names:  White Walnut, Lemon Walnut.

Parts used:     Bark, leaves and roots

Effect:    Wonderful natural laxative, works even with chronic constipation, also expels worms. Soothing to the entire digestive track. Is used in colds, flu, and fevers. Cleansing and  strengthening tonic, especially good tonic for the liver.

 Name:    Chestnut--Castanea dentata

Common name: Sweet Chestnut or American Chestnut

Parts used:     Inner bark and leaves.

Effect:     A strengthening tonic, tea relieves coughing and is beneficial to the  lungs.

Name:    Cypress--Cupressus sempervirens

Parts used:    Cones and nuts

Effect:     Stops bleeding of all kinds. A tea made from the cones is useful in stopping diarrhea. Used in bleeding piles or hemorrhoids. Used as a douche; helpful in excessive menses.  Good as a mouthwash for bleeding or tender gums.

Name:    Fig--Ficus-carica

 Parts used:    Fuit and leaves

Effect:    A tea from the leaves takes spots off the face or body. Also  used on open wounds, stimulates the circulatory system. Good mouth wash or gargle for sore throat, halitosis or hoarseness. Used for lung stress such as bronchitis and asthma.

Name:    Laurel--Laurus nobilis

Common names: Bay Tree, Sweet Bay, Noble Laurel

Parts used:    Bark, leaves and berries

Effect:    A tea from the bark is good for stones in the kidneys or bladder. Nurturing tonic for the pancreas, spleen  and liver. A strong tea made from the berries is beneficial taken internally and externally for all kinds of bug bites or stings such as wasp. Used both as a tea and a gargle is good for sore throat, tonsillitis and various lung  stress. Useful as nose drops, helps combat colds, flu and fevers. The tea made from berries is also beneficial in suppressed menses or womb problems. Helps clear the brain, eyes, lungs and is an exceptional cleansing tonic for the  entire body. Kills worms, increases  urinary flow, lessens gas in the stomach and intestines. Good for any kind of cramps, relaxes the nerves. Used to bathe swollen or inflamed joints, rheumatisim.

Common names: Basswood, American Linden

Parts used:    Inner bark, leaves and flowers

Effect:    Stimulating in nature, a hot tea made from any of the above causes perspiration and cleanses the body of mucus, especially the kidneys, bladder and stomach. Useful in colds, coughs, hoarseness and sore throat. Good for female  complaints, headaches.

Name:    Magnolia--Magnolia glauca

 Common names:  Swamp Laurel, Sweet Bay, Sweet Magnolia

Parts used:    Bark

Effect:    Stimulating in nature, a strengthening tonic. A tea helps to cure tobacco habits. Is used in many skin rashes.

 Name:    Maple--Acer rubrum

Common names: Swamp Maple

Parts used:   Inner bark and leaves

Effect:    Acts as a sedative, is a strengthening tonic  and  soothing to the nerves. Useful to the spleen and liver.

 Name:    Oak--Quercus alba 

Common names: White Oak, Tanners Bark

Parts used:     Inner bark, leaves and acorn caps

Effect:     A cleansing, strengthening tonic, is antiseptic in nature. A strong tea is used as a douche for vaginal discharge or womb dis-comfort. Increases urinary flow and  helps to expel kidney stones and helpful to bladder. Expels pinworms, useful in piles or hemorrhoids, any rectum problems. Used both internally and externally,  helps varicose veins, goiter or hardened neck. Reduces swellings.  Helps normalize functions of kidneys, liver, spleen.

Name:    Peach--Amygdalus persica

Parts used:     Bark, leaves, twigs and kernels

Effect:    A natural laxative and  sedative useful in dyspepsia, gastritis and irritation of the digestive system. Helps to ease nausea or morning sickness in pregnancy.  A wonderful nervine, relaxing to the entire body. Good in coughs and bronchitis. Excellent  in burning urine or any inflamation or tenderness of the pelvic area. Used on all open wounds.

Name:    Pine--Pinus strobus

Common names: White Pine, Soft Pine

Parts used:   Inner bark, sprigs

Effect:    Acts as an expectorant, used in chest ailments as coughs, colds, flu and bronchitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis and sore throats. Stops  coughing and helps expel phlegm and mucus from both the throat and lungs. Good used in those purposes in combination with Wild Cherry bark. Used with uva-ursi, marshmallow or Popular bark  is excellent for use in diabetes.

Name:    Popular--Populus tremuloides

 Common names: White Popular Aspen or Trembling Popular

Parts used:    Bark, buds and leaves

Effect:    Nurturing and strengthening tonic, especially when used at times of dis-ease or stress. Also of great benefit to our elders of society. Useful in diabetes,  jaundice, hay fever  neuralgia and liver troubles. A strong tea used externally on eczema and weaker tea taken internally. Also good used on any open wounds.

Name:    Prickly Ash--Zanthoxylum americanum

Common names: Northern Prickly Ash, Toothache Tree

Parts used:    Berries and bark

Effect:    Will ease a toothache hence it's common name the toothache tree. It will help heal sores in the mouth. The  berries have a stronger effect than the bark and make a wonderful stimulating and strengthening tonic for the entire body. Useful in chronic rheumatism and many skin conditions. Good for chronic female problems. Acts on mucus  membranes, helps to relieve asthma and colds. Increases saliva flow and helps to remove blockages in all parts of the body. Splendid blood purifier.

Name:    Slippery Elm--Ulmus fulva

Common names: American Elm, Indian or Red Elm, Sweet Elm

Parts used:    Inner bark

 Effect:    A tea is most beneficial to an ulcerated or cancerous stomach and is extremely nourishing as well. Helps to congeal  mucus any where in the body and then to pass it from the body via normal channels. Heals and strengthens. When steeping the tea, let it  steep for an hour or two as it is slow to release it's  properties.**** Take care  not to boil       it in the process, but to only steep at very low heat.****

 Name:    Spruce--Picea excelsa 

Common names: Norway Pine, Spruce, Fir Tree

Parts used:    Leaves, young sprouts

Effect:    Helps to pass stones in the kidneys or bladder. Is a natural expectorant and will help in cases of lung or chest congestion, will cut phlegm in throat and  lungs. Very  healing in nature as well. A cleansing tonic.

Name:    Walnut--Juglans regia

 Common names: English Walnut

Parts used:     Leaves, bark and nuts

Effect:      Excellent to slow profuse menses, used both as a tea and as a  douche. Helps prevent hair loss by massaging the tea into the scalp, also strengthens hair.

Name:     White Ash---Fraxinus americana

Parts used:     Inner bark

Effect:     A cleansing tonic, great help in reducing weight! Take a cup of  tea upon retiring to help the body process food properly, cleanses the entire  system.  Good to increase urinary flow and helps constipation.

 Name:    White Willow---Salixalba

Parts used:     Leaves and bark

Effect:     Similar to aspirin, alleviates pain and helps to reduce fevers and  chills. Lessens aches and pains in the body.  Increases urinary flow. Good to dress any  open or  bleeding wounds.

Name:    Wild Black Cherry--Prunus serotina

 Common names: Choke Cherry or Wild Cherry

Parts used:    Inner bark

Effect:      Frequently combined with Pine to help loosen phlegm or mucus in the throat or chest. Very good for fevers, colds, flu, tuberculosis or asthmatic conditions. Commonly used in cold or cough medicines. Used for high blood pressure and  arthritis Helpful to the stomach in dyspepsia or stomach distress.****Make sure not to boil the tea but to only steep at very low heat.****
