Day 8~

Yesterday was full of adjustments and by the end of it I was too tired to write.
I broke the news to the kids about the ateroid. They had a hard time accepting it. They want to know when Daddy is coming home... so do I.

The ritual last night was strained. It was as if , if they didn't ask the Goddess to help him, then he really wouldn't NEED it and therefore not be in trouble, and not need any kind of help and come home just like he always does.

Refusal  to accept our circumstances is becoming rebellion in many ways. But the quick sting of natural consequences has been working  somewhat. I just hope the consequences aren't too costly.

The chickens have stopped laying so many eggs. Going to try something the local indians used to eat....

Day 9~
Boiled up some mesquite beans last night. I'm surprised it isn't , or rather wasn't on some high-falootin yuppie restaurant menu of creative and artistically spiffy southwestern cuisinne in New York City ... they taste like the back end of a lizards butt.......Do NOT ask me how I know that.

Dogs seem to like them, but then dogs go gah-gah over the remains of horses hooves when they get trimmed too ...Yuk.

need to go through the books we have here and try to sneak in some "schoolish" stuff now and then. Just because the planet is going through Dark Ages II, it doesn't mean we have to be ignorant peasants.
Maybe I'll find a new recipe while I'mlooking.

It was very late when Den got in. I must have been very tired because he didn't wake me.
Seems like everything we took advantage of is now such a chore, when I got up the kids were already awake, they were sitting on the floor in the kitchen playing with the puppies.  Stevie jumped up when he saw me Good Morning, I'm hungry, I laughed and thought some things never change.
Wash your hands and face while I make oakmeal.  The coffee was perking, water was boiling it was very hard to think that just out our door there was so much turmoil because right now here in my kitchen all seems so wonderfully normal.
After breakfast I ask the kids if they would help me with my chores, Den told me there was a couple of new cows in the barn from the Burton farm, a few of the cows must have made it back in the barn before the disaster and were alive since there was no one there to tend them I figure I better bring them home.  From the looks of our growing home it a good thing I did, we going to need the milk.
Den said they found a few neighbors and were so happy to see us, they were all doing pretty good shape.  A few of the older folk we had to get them their medicine but all is well.  Den told me they talk with Luke the chief and they were planning on a gathering at the Post Office/City Hall on Saturday in the am, if we could tell everyone we come across.
I was happy that Den said he was going to stay home because the wood was getting low so we need to do some splitting and loading the house before dark.  Also needed to take a little more time with the animals they all need their hooves trimmed and other what nots to do.
While the kids and Den were busy in the barn, I thought it was a good time to go through my books and see if there were anything the kids could read.  That's when I came across my son's wedding album, I sat down and just looked at the pictures, my heart going back to our conversations about their moving closer in the future before they start to have their own babies. It was then I just couldn't hold it back anymore and I cried and cried, whole body ached to just see them again.  I held the album close to my heart and sent all my love to them.
I collected all the candles that were to low to burn and ready them to be melted to make more new candles, refilled the kerosene lanterns.  Checked on the soup that I put together earlier and then gather some clothing together that I could alter for the kids.
Den never came across anyone looking to get home to their children, so he figure Saturday at the meeting he would post an annoucement, hopefully this family could be brought back together,  till then we would keep them safe.
Another night, except tonight we all sat together the kids made for silly remarks, they dogs were being goofy and we were all laughing together.

Day 9

Chores, Chores, Chores - they did go by faster this morning  with the kids - something about their boundless energy just gives you that lift.
Shania asked if I would show her how to cook today, so we pulled out one of my recipes books and looked for something that we had most of the ingredients.  We had such a nice talk, Shania told me all about her family, how they were visiting their grandmother who lives in a retirement home near here and that's where mom and dad were going that day.  She told me about how she was going to be taking dance classes this fall when they got home, but that they were spending the summer  here because grandmom home had to be packed up and closed.  Then she started to cry a bit, I gave her hug and told her not to worry things will all work out.
Den and Stevie were out in the woods, Den took his rifle and axe, I think he was hoping that there might be some game in the woods, maybe a turkey.  Besides he had to take down a couple of small trees for fire wood, he didn't want to be collecting wood this winter, he figure it there would be no way to even leave the house once the winter sets in.
We had also discuss how we were going to keep the animals, we had plenty of hay and grain stored up for a long haul, but the cold would be a big problem in the barn and for getting water, we have to find a way to keep the animals warm.  And we have to figure it out soon.
Hopefully at the town meeting this Saturday the towns people will have some answers, I mean we have to find a way to survive and the only way will be if we do it together.  The government doesn't seem to be intact, or at least there no way of knowing if they are we still don't have broadcasting on either a radio or TV.  Luke is the only one that has talked with the outside world, let's hope he has some information.
All we can do right now is take care of each other.

Day Eight & Nine...

Continue to wait  & suffer

Day Eight:

We gather up enough ingredients and made cookies this morning. It really put some smiles on everyone's faces. There is really nothing like a chocolate chip cookie to make you feel warm inside. Afterward, we tried to find something on the radio, like Eric has been doing everyday, but like usual only static. Best to conserve the batteries anyway. We had the ritual in the early beginnings of dusk, even though you really couldn't tell the difference between morning or night, but it turned out nicely. It felt good to be doing it, and it seemed to put out a lot of warm energy, though we were all pretty cold from the drop in temperature. Nothing else out of the norm, hopefully we will see the First Aid folks again tomorrow, so they can help us out with information, we all really want to now what's going on in the world.

Day Nine:

The first aid folks came by this morning, gave us some extra towels and sanitized gloves and such for when Moe's baby comes into the world. They finally spoke a little more about what's going on, and said that an asteroid hit somewhere up North, nowhere near us, but it's sending the whole world into cataclysmic changes, and there is really nothing we can do but wait it out, and hope that by the time supplies run out, the government will have set up some camp for everyone to meet at, so we're all receiving food and blankets, though it will need to be indoors due to the cold and dust. An hour or so after they left, we received the worst news we could possibly get. We were all in the kitchen as usual, washing and cleaning, when the ground started to shake. It was very light, but disturbing enough that we all talked about leaving. Who knows, we might have a big earthquake soon, or maybe even be hit by a tidal wave. We don't really know much about those closer to the beach, if they've been hit, or had an earthquake, but we really have no way of finding out. Ehren, Moe, George (her boyfriend) and I sat down and decided that we'll need to move sometime, as soon as we can try and get into touch with some other friends. We might all pack up, and try to get to them, but honestly I'm afraid of what I'll find on our way there. We aren't sure yet, but we're really thinking we should leave soon. We REALLY don't want to end up on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
