*Jack Frost*

Jack Frost

A bit of Lore and Mythos

Though he's a respected sprite that shows up in English folklore, Jakc is a mysterious figure in the sense that no one knows exactly where he originates from.  Two o the most popular guesses are Scandinavian Mythos (this one suggest that he might be connected to a frost giant named Jokti) and Russians Mythos (where it is thought that he might be connected to Father Frost).  Though Jack is the personification of the spirit of Winter as are the others, he has a much milder manner.

Standing at just 2 1/2 feet and dress in a clear costume covered with icicles, Jack is one of many sprites that has weather control.  He's only limited in the sense that he can only use his powers during the Winter months.  The rest of the year he lives with the rest of the Winter Court in Faery.

Though he bring about the Winter chill, Jack is far from being an aggressive sprite.  Providing that you're properly prepared for the Winter, he is actually quite playful.  He enjoys botht the reaction and the shocked energy he receives from people when he randomly nips their nose, fingers, and toes on a cold night.  It's said if you're quite sensitive and listen very carefully that you can hear his peals of laughter as he goes about this game.

Not only is he a top notch prankster but a matchless artist.  The intricate designs that he paints with ice on windowpanes makes Michelangelo himself appear but a mere amateur.

This year as you celebrate your Winter holidays be on the lookout for the impish sprite known as Jack Frost.  And if you wish to join him in his merry making, take a walk down the street on a cold frosty morning and admire his handy work on windows and care windshields.  Marvel at the intricacy and differences of the icy patterns.  Then when you're finished go home and drink a hot drink in his honor.

Meet Mr. Frost

This is a path working exercise so you can meet Jack Frost and experience the wonder & magick of winter.

-o-o-o-

Sit somewhere comfortable where there are no interruptions.

Take three deep breaths and feel yourself relax on each out breath.

Now imagine standing in a narrow, cobbled street.  It's night time but you can see the village by the flickering flame of street lamps.  It's snowing lightly and you can feel the snowflakes falling onto your skin... you are warm and cozy in your clothes so the snowflakes just feel like a gentle cold caress.

As you look around you see thatched cottages along the side of the road.  Beyond the small, leaded window panes of the cottages is darkness.  All the villagers are safely tucked up in bed.  You are alone and free to enjoy the wonderful tranquility of the village on a winter's night.

Suddenly you hear a giggle and ahead of you a strange figure hops and skips down the street.  It is a little man dressed in a sparkling white costume with an ethereal glow.  As you look more closely you notice there are icicles handing from his ears, nose and fingertips.  You realise that the little man is Jack Frost himself.

With mischievous glee Jack dances from cottage to cottage painting intricate and unique patterns on every window pane he comes across.

He stops nearby you and for the first time he notices you are watching him.  He offers his cold hand and invites you to admire his handiwork.

As you take Jack's hand you feel yourself become lighter and lighter.  Very soon you  are able to float above the village scene below and you know you are safe with Jack as your guide.

From your elevated position amongst the thickening of snowflakes Jack instructs you to extend your free hand, turn your palm upwards and catch a snowflake.  It is beautiful and totally unique - a masterpiece of design and symmetry.

Jack leads you away from the village and you see the fields below, white washed in pure snow.  You can see the animals safe and sound in their burrows and the seeds just under the ground waiting for spring to grow.

You enjoy your journey with Jack Frost and see the beauty of the winter season.  When you are ready Jack takes you back to the narrow street of the village where you thank him for the wonderful journey he shared with you.

Jack bows then continues down the street, painting and giggling until you can see him no more.  You're now ready to return back to waking consciousness.

Jack Frost Tarot Spread

The Winter is a cold time of the year physically.  In order to come through it in good physical condition we must take extra care of our bodies (I.e. dressing warmly, maintaining sufficient heating, eating warm foods, etc).  As the cold affects our bodies if we fail to do the above so it can affect our thoughts if we aren't careful to correct them.  And we can find ourselves feeling cold, numb, or even bitter towards strangers, friends, and even loved ones.

This spread is designed to warm up any cold feelings that are forming and help you to have a playful attitude towards the person you feel them towards.

Position 1 - Why are they nipping at my fingers, toes, and nose?-  This card will show the root to your cold feelings.

Position 2 - Intricate patterns on the windowpane- This card will show you a marvelous quality about the person you 're having the cold feelings about.  This will help to remind you that this person, no matter how you currently feel about them, has something beautiful about them.

Position 3 - Actions of a Prankster with the heart of an artist- This card will show you light but caring action that you can take to help warm the inner ice.

Position 4 - The Return to Faery- This card will list a long term action that you can take in order to stop the ice from returning.
