A player with 15000 MP made what I would think is an unusual bid to garner a top against us tonight. Here is the hand Vul vs not
P P 3NT ?

I'm assuming the 3nt is gambling and the 15000 pt guy has a Pick a major bid. |

I'd probably pass this at IMPs, but I'm a wimp vul vs not. The problem is that LHO has a very easy decision here (knowing his partner's exact hand), while I don't. 4S might easily work, or go for 800 vs nothing they can make. |

Having both majors, this person dbled and pard as a passed hand jumped to 6C reaching a slam noone else reached. Well done. |

If you are wondering how you can be cold for a slam with 8 pts opposite a passed hand, here are the hands(Board 18).

With all the new technology, is it only a matter of time before f2f bridge players will have to hand in all devices and be wanded with a metal detector before being allowed to join in to a friendly club game? |

I wonder, why S didnt open with full 8 cards club suit (AKQxxxxx) ...... If S opened 3nt (as gambling).... smart W cld bid... W N E S p 3nt(gambling) 5c(1)? ? ? 5c - as try guess it... (i remember the same motive... from literature)... seems 5c cld be dn 10 , 500 (for sure w.o X) , cheap save against vuln slam (-1370 |
