Opps got a very nice MP score for getting to 2S making 2 instead of 1NT. How do you get there playing strong NT? .----------------------------------------------------. |Dealer: N ===North======== Brd# 169129 | |Declarer: S Scoring: MP | |Vulnerable: EW S: AJ32 | |Contract: 2S H: T75 | |Result: Made 2 D: J4 | |Score: 110 C: AKQ3 | |===West========= ===East========= | |S: T974 | | S: 85 | |H: A986 | | H: KQJ | |D: Q7 | | D: AK952 | |C: 982 .----------. How do you get to 2S? Accidentally! Do I worry about good auctions to get there - NO. |

I knew that North had to have opened 1C in order to get to a spade contract. After all, does one open 1NT holding four top winners and two side jacks, one of which is doubleton? Most would. So, as Bill has said previously, it doesn't matter whether the auction that got the partnership to 2S is a good one.
Before I scrolled down to Message 4, I predicted the auction that got NS to 2S. Lo and behold, that auction was right there, in #4. |

My auction in #2 is completely reasonable |

I agree with Joe. However, you have to count on the opps to make that diamond bid to get there. |

So now I get it, the reason for our bad score was my 1D overcall. |

Bridge is a game of odds. Sometimes the wisest of actions will lead to a poor score, but over time they will work more often than not. Foolish actions sometimes will lead to fine results, but over time they will fail more often than not. If one looks simply at individual hands and expects wisdom to always triumph over foolishness then there will be plenty of counter examples. |

1D over 1C or 2D (assuming it's natural) is fine over 1nt. Actually your given auction would be oK if north hadn't raised to 2S |
