Dbl   3C!   3H    4D
4H    4S    Pass  Pass
5H    Pass  Pass  Dbl

At every table I looked at south opened 1D and

west  either dbled or bid 1H.  All other norths bid 1S (forcing).  I was the only one to bid 3c (weak).

Comment on the rest of the auction if you like but my interest is in my first bid.

300  was about ave  many played  in 4S dbled with ot's

Why are you giving up on the spade suit so soon? Over the double I would bid 1S in order to keep the bidding low. Bidding 3C on 7 small clubs makes me think that you were ready to puke. (Did you?)

I would bid 1S too,but then again that assumes the Dbl of 1D is a real T.O dbl which many times online is not. eg I consider the West hand a clear 1H overcall. Once I bid 3C, I would not consider 4S especially with the 4D bid.

Did pard really rebid 4D on AJxxx? There must have been a misunderstanding.

There was some sort of misunderstanding later in the auction.  I  didnt call west's dbl  a zone dbi  because with 17 it's close to a dbl and correct to hearts.

I thought my bid was perfect  3c shows a bad hand  then when I later bid spds it would be clear i had a distributional freak.

BTW I'm not suggesting pard did anything wrong, I  just found it odd that about 19 out of 20 bid a forcing 1s rather than a weak 3c.  Even over 1H I would be reluctant to bid 1S.

Because this hand isn't good enough to bid both suits, and if you have a profitable sack, its more likely to be in spades.
BTW, look how much you go for if pard has the DK instead of the SK on a spade lead in 4Sx(assuming the TO dbler has the SK), and 4H might not even be making

Alan wondered about South's 4D rebid and so did I.

If you play Fit-Showing-Jumps ( FSJ),  that is what 3C-jump would be.

Back in 2002, IanD made these comments:
        FSJ on  :
             a) In competition (including over a DBL ) and
             b) as a passed hand .

He went on to say from experience:

"Actually the bid comes up more often over a minor suit opening ! !, and, again as you suggested, this shows at least a 5 card suit with at least 4 card support for the minor. "
