Heres another  hand from last nites fun tourney  that has a basics  question.   I  always   have transfered  to  spade  and then bid hearts   last nite...  dyslexia   I did opposite  now........
 What is the reason  for  doing it  either way?

It is generally accepted that the sequence
 
1N - 2H
2S - 3H
 
is a game forcing, major suit 5-5, with possible slam interest. Opener bids 3S to accept spades as trump and anything else to accept hearts as trump.
 
Don't do it the other way around as some play the sequence:
 
1N - 2D
2H - 2S
 
as showing an invitational 5h+4s hand.
