Hi Ginny, since I am one of your partners I will say what I would have done, then maybe the experts can correct us. Because you used stayman first I think a 3s bid is right. It should tell your partner that you are 5/4 in spades and hearts - cuz you didn't transfer. It should strongly invite game in either 3nt or 4s. |

Gippo, I see that your partner opened 1NT with 14hcp, but even if using 15-17hcp for a NT opening after pard denies, a 4 card major and with you 8 points I think that 2 spades is the most that you can bid if partner has additional they must make a move to game you are not strong enough for a 3S bid in my opinion. I agree with your bidding Gippo (if not with the NT opening, this isn't a good 14). I believe that 2S over 2D is a standard way to show an invitational hand with 5 spades and 4 hearts. I am afraid that I can't agree with the suggestion to bid 3S instead of 2S. I'm not sure what 1NT - 2C - 2D - 3S should mean, but it seems to me that it certainly should be slammish, maybe a splinter. The reason 3S can't be invitational if it shows 5 spades is that it takes the partnership past 2NT. This sequence might also mean 4 hearts and 6 spades? |

Destiny 1nt-2c-2d-3s can be a) smolen showing game forcing values with 4h and 5s b) showing 5s and 4h and game forcing or game invite values (have seen both played) But it can't be a splinter...theres no suit A common method is to play 1nt-2c-2M-3otherMajor as showing 4M and an undisclosed single. |

good input ross, but IMO,example hand doesnt qualify for a stayman bid.xxxx of hearts not a valid suit and as i stated b/4 this hand if i was bidding even with void,i would transfer.think if your bidding smolen should have good 4/4 or 4/5 in majors.interesting that opener had only 14 hcp for 1nt.think if that was my pard would errode partnership trust. |

I don't think 2S was that bad. In standard bidding this shows about this hand, 5-4 with invitational values. 3S doesn't "strongly invite game" it 100% forces game. I also don't care much for the opening bid. But, as an additional point, the 2D bid is a clear error. When Stayman 2C is doubled, 2 additional calls are added to your options--Pass and Redouble. 2D becomes a natural call showing long D's. Pass says nothing to say while redouble shows very good Clubs and offers to play in 2C redoubled. |

Correction to IRDOZ's typo ( I thought I am the only one who makes those): 1nt-2c-2d-3s(jump) can be a) (game forcing) Smolen showing game forcing values with 4s and 5h |
