This Message board has so many tips to offer to Bridgers of all levels!

A long time ago, Barton posted a hand where with AKQxxxx in Spades in first seat & another Q or K outside, it paid to pass, come in later, get to play in 4S doubled & make it! I hope I recall it correctly but do remember clearly it was Barton, endorsed by Lorne. Had occasion to use that learning recently. Sitting in first seat, both vul in a MP contest, I was dealt AKQJ1098432 , void, xx, x . I recalled Barton & passed! Various players bid 1S/3S/4S, even 2C was opened! . The bidding went P(me)-1C(lefty)-P(pard)-1D(righty). I decided it was not gonna end there & opps had to have Heart fit, so passed again, with Barton firmly in control of me! 1H(lefty)-P(pard)-4H(righty). Now, I bid 4S. It went P-P-5H(righty)-5S(me)-P-P-X( righty). Pard turned up with A of dias & needless to say 5S-X coasted home for a 80% score where opps had 6H for the taking.

Moral: There are hands where our principle should be : Let them finish their bidding or reach game & then  I will start my bidding.
