Its a new year now!
I have decide ratrher than bitching about banning this bid , avoiding as much as possible those who play it(HAMMY for sure), and being totally befuddled how to
defend against it , I would rather LEARN the basic defense against it!
Ok so I see a cc  2d= weak2 major, 20-40 hcp, etc and some not punctuated properly  what is(are) the basic defense(s)?
Thanks in advance

multi bid, think ross has a good site for defense to 2ds multi, plus since ACBL allows on limited bases, should be in "karens library".

This is an attempt to explain Multi 2d and some simple defenses to it.

Lets just restrict hte Multi we will explain to a had that contains either

i) a weak 2 in a major (either a weak 2 hearts OR a weak 2 spades)
and
ii) a strong no trump hand (lets say 22-24 hcps)

2D - I have a weak 2 in a major or 22-24 hcps

Responses (only covering the common ones - not pass or 3 minor)

1.  2H - If your hand is a weak 2 in a major then I want to play in 2H. In other words it asks responder to pass with a weak 2h, bid 2s with a weak 2s or bid no trump with a strong no trump hand.

2.  2S - If your hand is a weak 2 in hearts then I want to play in 3 or 4 hearts (In other words 2 spades says I HAVE heart support). On the other hand if your hand is a weak 2 in spades I want to play in 2S (In other words 2 spades says "I HAVE heart support but NOT spade support"). With a weak 2 in hearts opener will bid 3 or 4 hearts. With a weak 2 in spades opener will pass. With the strong no trump hand opener will bid no trump.

2NT - Responder has a good hand and wants opener to describe their hand.

This will usually be
3clubs - good weak 3h
3 diamonds - good weak 2s
3hearts - bad weak 2h
3spades - bad weak 2s
3nt - no trump hand (but there are some common of variations)

So lets look at some common sequences

a.  2D - pass - 2H - all pass

Responder has no interest in a heart game. By passing opener reveals their hand was a weak 2h opening.

b.  2D - pass - 2H - pass - 2S - all pass

Responder has no interest in a heart game. By correcting opener reveals their hand was a weak 2 in spades.

c.  2D - pass - 2H - pass - 2S - pass - 4S

Responder has no interest in a heart game. When opener corrects to spades responder suddenly comes to life and bids 4 spades - obviously responder has a hand short on hearts but with very good spade support.

d. 2D - pass -  2S - pass - 3H - all pass

Responder has heart support - opener confirms weak 2 in hearts by bidding hearts.

e. 2D - pass -  2S -  all pass -

Opener has a weak 2 in spades.

f. 2D - pass -  2S - pass - 2NT - pass - 6NT

Opener has a 22-24 hcp hand

OK - Thats a quick explanation - Now for some simple defenses - you can follow Rustys link for more complicated ones.

Heres one simple one

Over 2D (ie in immediate seat)
X Either 12-16 balanced or any 20+ hand
2H/S Natural
2NT 17-20 balanced
3suit 12-16, good six card suit
Game To play

Over 2D - 2H (ie in fourth position)
X Shows hearts
3C Weak takeout of hearts
3H Strong takeout of hearts
Others Natural

Over 2D - 2S (ie in fourth position)
X Shows spades
3C Weak takeout of spades
3S Strong takeout of spades
Others Natural

Thanks Again Ross   I now  accept Mastecard also :-)

I went to the sites Rusty suggested and  trying to learn the defenses there were just as complicated as trying to understand the bids...

Over 2D - 2S (ie in fourth position)
X Shows spades
...How do you know that LHO(weak opener) does not have 6spades behind you and P obviously then will be short or void.... If you are XX, what the heck does P do?

If you have a good hand with spades the chances are very high the multi bidder has a weak 2h hand...and   in the very rare case that you hold spades and opener does too then depending on your hand penalty double might work out well..and of you don't like it then running is an option.
