I bid 2d which promises absolutely nothing, in my opinion. I didn't have values for 1nt. My partner then bid 3c, which to me showed a good club suit and a good hand. I passed. Partner was 17 points, 1444, and played in a 4-2 fit going down 200 points. Pard Me 1S X P 2D 3C P P P When you bid after making a takeout double you'd better be prepared to play the hand in whatever you bid because your bid is not forcing. |

JoAnne's bidding was 100% correct. Her partner could have simply raised to 3D showing extra values and a 4+ card fit. Or if he felt that in love with the hand, cue 2S. But with 17, if partner DOES have a stopper, and failed to show it at the 1 level, (such as with the actual hand), 3NT won't have much of a chance. |

The response of 1N to a takeout double shows good values in addition to stops in opps suit or suits. With a minimum hand you always make the cheapest suit bid available usually in a 4 or 5cd suit, but sometimes it has to be in a 3cd suit. |
