BIDDING:
West  North East  South
            Pass  2C
Pass  2D!   Pass  3C
Pass  3H    Pass  3S
Pass  5C    Pass  Pass
Pass

I'm thinking I should bid only 4 clubs, but I suspect pard would just bid 4H and quit.   If she bids 4D  I'll bid 4S  still thinking clubs is trump and that may get us there.

Now I know what Alan means about things not "lining up".

2C - 2D
2N - 3D!
3H - 4H
4N - 5D
6H

I know from the 2D bid P has either the ace of spades or king of diamonds.  I am going to bid 6H if it is the ace of spades.   I bid 2N because I don't like bidding 3C with that suit, and I don't mind bidding 2N with a singleton ace.

Pass  Pass  Pass

These are auctions thgat work but are they good "auctions".  For example in the twofer auction can Maggie just blast to 4nt?

In the Joanne auction   Would I take action over 4H with my 6 count?

I'm thinking something like:

BIDDING:
West  North East  South
            Pass  2C
Pass  2D!   Pass  3C
Pass  3H    Pass  3S
Pass  4C    Pass  4H

The problem ia Maggie patterning out or are we in some sort of cieing auction.  If paterning out and she is 4315  Then my spd ace makes me happy and I may cue 4S.

Now knowing my HCP are the pd ace and not a wasted dia king (or maybe both) she may be able to go.

When opener did not rebid 2S (in your bones you felt that coming and it did not), your singleton ace ballooned in value. Once you hear of heart support, your values are much more than "6 cnt". Definitely worth a move over 4H! The singleton ace, six card suit and the known to be working queen would have me thinking more in terms of "is 10 enough value for all this or is it worth more - certainly not less".

In terms of Losing Trick Count, I would say North has at least 2 cover cards with a very high probability of one or two more. The 2C opening should be no less than a 4 loser hand (many 4 loser hands would not be worth a 2C open when the focus is on a minor suit). Very slammish! Cannot stop at 4H.

5C was the slam killer.
   [ I still don't understand it ].

2D! established the GF, so 4C ( not 5C ) would set the tone.
Heck, Opener, now knowing of a DBL-fit could just bid 6C.
Or conservatively, go 4NT over 4C...
          a) pass 5C , if no Ace reply ( Sp obviously )
          b) bid 6C,  if 5D replied.

However, even if no Ace, if North had the remaining K ( Diam ), it could provide a discard for the losing Ht ( if no hQ ) ;
Or, if 2Q's ( no A or K ), the sQ and cQ would be nice and slam still has chances.

My error was thinking the 3S neccessarily showed a dislike of hearts.  I felt 4 clubs would sound too strong.

BTW the defence made some sort of error (I forget what) but I'm not sure even 5C makes.

1C (yes it's heavy, but I don't want to lose either major) - 1H
2S - 3C (positive, tolerance for clubs)
3H - 3S
3NT - 4H
5C - 5NT *(choose slam)
6C - 6H (correction due to heart length)
