To all my mothers bridge partners and friends,
Maureen Helen Geving, perhaps better known as Pinky4life7 or Spadesdb4 passed away on Saturday, April 24 at 8:55 am. She died very suddenly while doing what she liked doing best ~ sitting at her computer in her own home. I know she kept many things from most if not all of you about her age and health. She never wanted anyone to feel sorry for her and certainly didn’t want anyone to know her age as she feared no one would play with her. My mom was 85, born on September 8, 1918 in Leeds, North Dakota. She earned a teachers degree from Minot State Teachers college, taught school in one room school houses in rural North Dakota until she married my father in June of 1943. She lost her husband in 1969 at the age of 49 and never remarried. She moved with us (lived on her own) to Fargo, ND, Carmel, IN and finally to The Woodlands, TX. She had been on oxygen 24 hours a day for the past two years and seldom left her home except to share in holidays with us, go to the dentist and the doctor Through it all she never lost her wit and sense of humor. Her mind was always sharp. Bridge may be a card game, but for my mother it was literally her lifeline to the outside world and so many, many wonderful friends ~ all of you! I truly believe that if her grandson hadn’t suggested that we buy her a computer for her 80th birthday and if she hadn’t found you, she would have left this world several years ago. Thank you so much to each of you who appreciated her wit, played bridge with her or against her, and remained her friend.
We will have a memorial service for her in the Robb chapel of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, Wednesday, April 28, 2004 and we’ll leave the following day for Minot, ND for a burial service next to my father, her husband, in Rosehill Memorial Park Cemetery.
With sincere thanks,
Jacque
