Dora was a one of a kind, they threw away the mold after she was born. I never knew a more caring person. The many tributes to her during her illness and after she left us are a testimony to that fact. She had many physical problems for a long time and I never heard a word of complaint from her. I was lucky to meet with her frequently and became fonder of her each time I did. She loved bridge but not sure that it was her first love, since she was a baseball fanatic. That is where her nickname after her beloved Reds was derived. She was in Pittsburgh many times for the Labor Day Regionals and for the contests between the Pirates and the Reds. The last time they played here she and David stayed with me. I felt privileged to get to know them both. She was always a champion of the underdog. Her loyalty to Jim (Ironsides) was proof of that. She never shied away from playing with the lesser lights in the Bridge Club. She never made anyone feel not as good as she was at the table. She really was a good player. She was known in her local club for helping many get those last few gold points to achieve becoming a Life Master. She had many talents, gardening, needlepoint, knitting, scrapbooking to name a few. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her final illness was while she was away from home babysitting grandchildren so her daughter could accompany her husband at a conference. I was so lucky to have her as my special friend and will miss her forever. My deepest sympathy to her beloved family and hope they soon will enjoy the many good memories that they have of her.
