North 6 4 A Q J 2 -- K J 3 South J 10 7 7 6 4 -- A 8 3 East did the bidding, so I place most of the points there. He has shown 7 points so far, 5 diamonds and 2 spades. It looks to me like hearts are going to split nicely so I finesse the heart and play for that and sluff a club on long heart. If East wins the king of hearts, he has to return a diamond (ruff/sluff), a club (giving an easy finesse) or another heart. If he returns a heart, and I find the hearts are 4/2 when I play the third round....I have to find a squeeze. My brain is hurting... help me here, PK Play trumps out will force three sluffs... but if East keeps the clubs and West keeps the heart..... |

No squeeze, WF. You are close. Hint: You've lost 2 tricks. You can't afford to lose both a heart and a club, but.... |

You can afford to lose a heart, but not both a heart and a club. You make if hearts are 3-3 or the KH is onside. But there is one additional chance. Cash the AH. Get back to hand with a trump (not a club) and lead a heart. If West has KH, you can pitch a club on the 4th heart. If East has KH, but hearts break 3-3, you pitch a club on the 4th heart. Lastly, if East started with Kx of hearts, East will be endplayed when in with the KH. That is the extra chance we are trying for. |

I dreamed about this hand last night, PK and woke up this morning with the answer. Unfortunately, I do not have this much time when playing a hand to figure out the right thing to do. Any suggestions? Maybe a brain transplant? |
