WOW that was great to read!
So glad all is doing SO FANTASIC!!!
Those blues do suck but you sound like you are getting through them and hopefully they are will pass completly in no time.
SO awsome to hear the birth was fantasic - YAY!!!
Can't wait to hear it - but take your time as I know it it takes time for your emotions and the high of it all to all settle down before you can even begin to possibly put it into words.
B sounds like he is taking it all very 'normal'. It would be a little hard sensing some anger towards you but he will get past that and thats just his way of expressing him self and dealing with it as you know.
Cute he wants to sit next to him etc. Nawww brothers bonded forever hehe.
SO glad for you BF is going well.
Congrats!
My nipples dispite perfect latching always were sore for the first 1 - 2 weeks so hopefully yoursheal up soon. Sounds fine though that they only hurt for those first moments.
Woo hoo for the 8-2 feed on the second night. Ouch for your boobs. He obviously did a great job at getting your milk suppy in and up and then went "Mmmmm great my tummy is full". hehe
Ok well what the midwife said to you I agree 100% completly - sounds like GREAT advice to me!
Sophie took alot longer to feed in the first weeks but after that she only took 5 - 10 mins. Gracie and Chloe both took 5 - 10 mins max from the very first days. Seems weird huh but yes it is fine! Just means he is a very efficient feeder (bonus!).
You also may have a very forceful letdown (i did) - I don't know if you can feel the letdown yet or not( you probably know its ok if you can't or even never do but most people start to feel it within a few weeks). I think with g and c I felt it sooner though. Soooo with this it can actually cause such young babies to get a stomache ache - so what the midwife said with holding him out to 2hr minimum is very good advice as by feeding him sooner will actually make it worse and create a vicious cycle of tummy pains for him. He will still be getting the hind milk but cause he is so efficient he may still get a big dose of the foremilk too - so IF you do notice when your boobs are quite full before a feed then you feed him and an hr later he does seem to have a pain perhaps next time you feed him you could just hand express a little bit of milk even till you start to get a letdown then feed him so he gets a little less foremilk - will make him tummy more settled.
On the one boob thing - YUP one boob is best in my opinion. You sound like you have plenty of milk so definalty and based on the short feed thing - definatly one boob. He is full after 5 - 10 mins so if you go putting him on the other boob he will probably vomit it up as it will be ready to just squirt straight ot into his mouth very forcefully (plus 'more' foremilk).
If you didnt have much milk or he was taking alot longer to feed and then pulling off the boob continuously as if he isnt getting any from that one anymore and then still looking for more then you would put him on the other breast. I think I actually fed Chloe on one breast each feed for the first 6 month and then after that it was only occasionally I fed her off two. If you feel your supply is low or when he seems to be doing the hungry growth spurt feeding to get your supply up then you can do both.
The ONLY problem I ever found with feeding off one breast and cause they fed so quickly is that they just get on and get off and doesnt always leave enough time to stimulate your breast to keep a good milk supply going. Atm you wont have that trouble as he is so young and your supply would be great having only come in days ago. So keep in the back of your mind for a couple of weeks time or whenever it may be that your milk starts to really settle down...to try and get him to suck on your boob after he is finished feeding for just a bit longer. So if he comes off stuffed then just burb him or whatever then just pop him back on just to give that little extra stimulation to keep you supply in good nick. hehe Even if for a min.
So yeah you will know when to change to both breasts if and when he keeps coming off as if he is still hungry but not getting anything from that one boob anymore.
On the other note - (I dont mean to confuse you) from my experience it can sometimes be a challenge working this out as somtimes if you have mistaken a pain or tirdness for hunger and are feeding them and they keep pulling off it may just be cause they were only latching on to help ease the belly ache (hence when a dummy is handy) or latching on cause they were so overtird and just wanted to fall asleep and thought ok sucking a boob will help me sleep. Then when they start getting a mouthful of milk they pull off and cry then latch on and pull off and cry and it would be easily mistaken for low milk supply or the need to swap breasts but really they are pulling of cause they dont want a feed they just wanted to suck for either of the obove reasons.
Just something to keep in mind - usually I found this was more common the sooner the feed was from the last one. Another good reason to stick to a 2 hr minimum. In the next week or two I personally found upping that minumum to 2.5-3hrs worked better but you will work that out - whats right for hunter.
Gosh i can crap on!!! lol
I am certain hunter is an absolute CUTIE! I am sure you are not biased either!
Thanks for the update not being in a puter mood and all. I know what thats like - you want to let everyone know how happy you are and how everything went but to actually get on the puter and type it out can seem a bit too much kinda thing.
Just ENJOY your Blissful time!!
