Have you heard about this on the news?

I am so unsure right now.
Part of me is worried and thinks I should change Ella's bottles, but then part of me thinks that its all a bit over the top as alot of things these days trigger cancer (IYKWIM).

Have either of you heard much about it?

Thanks for posting all those links Janna, I have just spent about half an hour reading thru them all.

Well until now I thought the only concern with heating milk in a microwave was cos the milk can get hotspots in it and burn baby's mouth.
At the start we used to boil the jug and put a bottle in it and heat like that but it was so hard to judge and usually you went too hot and then had to get out cold water and cool it several times to finally get it to the right temp, this could take 15 mins sometimes which when you have a screaming, hungry baby waiting for its milk is very stressful, so we eventually always heated in the microwave and just made sure we checked the milk and shook it well etc to avoid the hotspots thing.
Also when you go out and go into a mothers room at the shops or wherever the only way of heating a bottle is by microwave so you didnt have a choice then.
Baby's can drink formula at room temperature too you know which we didnt really know for sometime but when he started doing this it was easier so next time I will know this as it would be so much easier!

As for this bpa thing.....I dunno, it is hard. Of course there are differing opinions on it as with everything. Those links are saying science hasnt said it is harmful .....yet... and so are not supporting the cancellation of products that include it BUT I think after hearing something like that then a lot of people probly wont continue to buy those products so the company will lose out unless they change their ways and make them bpa free so eventually I would dare say that they will eliminate plastics that use this altogether.
I used avent bottles for Brandon mostly too, with a couple of different ones, that to be honest I liked more than avent anyway then I changed him from bottles to Nuby sippers at about 10  months which I am pleased to read are one of the bpa free products so that is a little reassuring. Altho we havent heated his milk in a microwave or used a microwave steriliser for quite sometime, maybe a good 8 months at a guess so I am probly not as worried.
I would try not to stress over it too much until the look into it properly and offer further research Janna, cos as Hayles said everything is hearsay these days and its terrible to see so many people diagnosed with cancer but I dont know if accusing everything of it is the answer. That might sound harsh but seriously every week nearly there is a new study into something causing cancer and maybe everything is but they arent really backing up the research too well. I was bottle fed and I think I hit puberty at a normal age, as have a lot of other people around me.
Dont get me wrong I am in know way going to be an advocate for them and believe me when I say that when I was reading thru all that info I had a pen and paper and was writing down all the bpa free companies because I think once the fear is in your mind, especially when it comes to babies and your children then of course you want to do everything you can to eliminate nasties like this....

I would like to see them do some better research and if it turns out correct or if they even see it as a threat which some do now, then ban it, there is no necessary reason for it to be there anyway.

Well after all this hype about BPA, I just felt wrong using bottles. I guess its just in the back of my mind now.
So we have weaned Ella off her bottles.
I know I'm slack and she should've already, just thought it would be hard and long process. But no, she is happy to have milk in her sippy cup.

I will be getting rid of all my bottles and if next time I bottle feed will be getting BPA FREE one's.

Even if it does turn out to be nothing, I would rather be safe...

Kel, do you have ANY idea where you got those Nubby sippers from?
I have been looking everywhere as Ella only has two sippy cups and I need more.

That top ones are what both my girls went on to when they weaned. They are great.
And yup coles and woolies I have seen them at lake haven coles Janna if the other one fails to have them.
Janna I asked my bestie is she had heard about the bpa and she said yes but she decided to not think about it. I said oh ok cause a friend of mine decided to get rid of her avent ones. She said ohh does avent have bpa? I said yup. I said you should ask your aunt and she said she will but that her aunt will probably just say its nothing cause she is a rep. lol

Ok, well Coles at Tuggerah only had one sort left - they do have others but they were sold out.
But its not the same as either of them. I'll take a pic and show you. LoL.

Well I asked Andrew's Mums friend (she is like an Aunt to Andrew) about BPA as she works at a BIG Babies Galore store in Sydney. She said it is crap what they've been saying. But I am still wary (sp)...

oh okay then Janna! lol, at least you found one!

I dont know about all this hoohah about the bpa, I sorta think if it was as bad as it could be iykwim, then there would be a ban on it but on the other hand it is a scary thought too. I guess it is just waiting to see what comes of it.
