Coronation Street could apparently become a West End show.

ITV bosses are planning to turn a number of the most successful programmes into stage musicals after the success the West End adaptation of prison drama Bad Girls, according to The Sun.

Coronation Street Emmerdale and Hell's Kitchen are all in line to tread the boards, but daytime chat show Loose Women is currently top of the list.

ITV chief Dawn Airey said: "ITV have some powerful programme brands which don't have to exist just on the telly.

"Musicals and plays have done good business for things like films so why not TV shows?

"Loose Women would be ideal. You can make money out of The Vagina Monologues, so what's the difference?"

ITV bosses are reportedly working on a string of money making schemes to boost their income after their profits plunged following the last year's exposure of the phoneline cons.

Other fundraising ideas apparently include a chains of The Street's Rovers Return pubs and a range of Hell's Kitchen-branded cooking products.
