Does anyone have any good idea's or tips on how i can stop my cat scratching my sofa and chair's..... she has a scraching post that she also uses. I've tried given her a gentle smack to spraying the sofa and chairs with a citrus spray but nothing is working yet?

I have always had the same problem with my cat. He would rather scratch the carpet next to his pole. I have never found a cure yet and he's been doing it for 7 years so I'm open to ideas to.

Get yourselves a cheap childs water pistol-every time you catch your cat scratching where he/she shouldnt -a quick squirt of cold water and a loud "no" will eventually teach your cat that scratching in that area is definately NOT a good thing(worked with my cat).
