Psychic Vampirism Part I

"Occasionally, the underdeveloped aura system with deficient energy resources will acquire an adaptive pattern of habitually invading the aura systems of others and drawing energy from them.  This phenomenon, which we previously referred to as psychic vampirism for lack of a better term, results in an immediate surge of new energy for the so-called psychic vampire and a marked depletion of energy for the host victim.  Although the typical vampire interaction will last only minutes at most, the residual effects on the victim, which can include dizziness, loss of energy, muscle tension, difficulty concentrating, headaches, and nausea, can last for days.  Repeated vampire attacks can lead to chronic fatigue, sleep distrubances, irritability, depressed mood and even  physical illness in the host victim.

Psychic vampirism is probably far more widespread that is generally realied.  We have all experienced social interactions that seemed to drain us of our energies, and we may know individuals who habitually tire or wear down people around them.  Even during brief, casual encounters, the experienced psychic vampire can lock into our energy system and rapidly exhaust our energy resources.  Though we may not have attributed our energy loss in these situaltions to psychic vampirism, we probably became somewhat more guarded in similar future interactions.

As a group, psychic vampires are quite varied in the personal traits and behavioral patterns.  Many of them fit the so-called "smooth operator" stereotype.  They are sometimes without scrupples, and can stoop to almost any means to meet their energy needs.  They can appear passive and reserved, effectively disguising any inclination toward vampirism, but when the situation demands it, they can be overly assertive and even intimidating.  They may actively prey on the vunerabilities of others, poised to strike at the opportune moment, or they may manipulate their target victim through claims of "special gifts or powers."  In the work setting, they are usually difficult to work with.  They are usually inconsistent in their job performance, often alternating between high efficiency and total ineffectiveness.

Despite their disguises, psychic vampires are typically insecure and vulnerable.  Although they may display an air of sef-importance, they operate from a position of weakness, not power.  They usually have limited insight into themselves, and they are quick to pass judgments on people around them.  They often complain about being treated unfairly, while at the same time, they are characteristically self-centered and inconsiderate of others.  Their personal relationships are typically unstable.  Many of them meet the criterian for a personality disorder, with such syptoms as emotional insecurity, difficulty controlling anger, poor self-image, and a weak sense of self.  They often harbor smoldering hostility, which from time to time, will explode in an outburst of anger."  They are found in all career settings, those that set themselves up as self-anointed "experts," who overstate their qualifications, challenging anyone who threatens their postion of power or authority seem especially prone to vampirism.

(Continued)

"The vampire interaction can be either deliberate or spontaneous on the part of the vampire, and consensual or non-consensual on the part of the host victim.  The typical vampire attack is probably spontaneous, thus requiring little or no conscious effort to initiate or maintain it.  In many spontaneous interactions, neither the victim nor the vampire is aware that energy transfer is occurring.  Although the victim is typically in the vampire's range of peripheral vision, the attack itself may involve little or no eye contact.

Many psychic vampires, upon becoming cognizant of their vampire tendencies, rationalize them as acceptable forms of needs fulfillment.  They deliberately plan their vampire rendezvous as they would other social engagements.  Their tactics are designed to transiently engage the unsuspecting partner in a spatially close interaction during which the unexpected attack occurs.  Psychic vampires often use blatant flattery, excessive friendliness, undue generosity, and a measured degree of self-disclosure to captivate their victim and maintain the interaction for the duration of the attack.

Casual vampire attacks, in contrast to the planned attack, often involves little or no preliminary social interaction with the victim.  The causal atack is usually inconspicuous with the victim oblivious to the invasion.  The results are, nonetheless, the same as for the planned attack-the vampire is satiated and the unwitting victim is depleted of a measure of energy.  These casual exchanges can occur almost anywhere - a classroom, office, restaurant, plane, gym, or any public gathering," even on the internet or telephone.

Like other behavioral patterns, psychic vampirism exists on a continuum.  While almost everyone can possess at least some of the characteristics associated with psychic vampirism, this does not mean that they are active psychic vampires.  Only when the tendencies associated with vampirism become sufficient to interfere with one's own well-being or the well-being of others can the individual be considered an active psychic vampire.

Psychic vampirism as an adult adjustment style usually has a long history in which symptoms, along with related changes in the aura, often emerge in the early teen years.  Faulty social learning and unfulfilled social needs are commonly present in the background of psychic vampires.  Often because of limited opportunities for social interaction and comparison, psychic vampires develop their won patterns of social fulillment.  They begin early to exercise the energy receiving capacity of the aura.  As the receiving function of the aura become dominant over other aura characteristics, actual structural changes begin to occur in the visible aura of a psychic vampire.

Among the major aura characteristics signaling psychic vampirism are numerous voids and areas of washed-out or drab coloration along with a shadowy, exernal region.  Among advanced psychic vampires, dark structures, sometimes called vampire tentacles, can be seen reaching beyond the area of normal aura activity.  Whe preparing for interaction, the tentacles, can be seen stretching outward as if in search of a host victim.  Upon contact with the host, the tentacles either interface the aura for a slow absorption of energy or they puncture the aura to draw instantly from  its inner energy supply.  The effects of the encounter are immediately visible in both the vampire and the host.  As the host's aura recedes and diminshes in brightness, the vampire's arua expands and pulsates with new energy.
