Winter Solstice (about Dec 21)

Altar Supplies: Incense, censer, chalice of H20, salt, pentacle, dagger, 4 element candles, cauldron, chalice of wine, bell. Green candle in the cauldron with a red, a white and a black candle arranged around it.

1. Cast Circle of protection:

a. Visualize my hand creating a circle of light and energy. Silver- Blue flame. Beginning in the East Walk clock-wise around the circle, sprinkling a salt-water mixture. While doing so, say "salt and water by casting thee, no spell nor unknown purpose be, except in true accord with me, and as my will, so mote it be!"

b. Next, take the incense and, beginning in the East, walk clock-wise around the circle, allowing the smoke from the incense to cleanse the circle. While doing so, say, "I banish from this circle, all unclean and evil forces".

c. Walk the circle a second time. ? I cast this circle to protect us from all negative and positive energy and forces on any level that may come to do us harm. I draw into this circle only energies and forces that are right and good for me and the most correct for my work?

d. Walk the circle a third time and say, ?I have created a sacred space. So mote it Be?.

2. Consecrate circle and altar: ?I consecrate this circle of power to the ancient gods. Here may they manifest & bless this child?.

3. Call to Quarters:

a. To the East, I invite the powers of Air To blow out the old and bring in the new on your winds of change. I invite the sprites, the dawn, the spring. I do summon, stir and call you up- come! Be welcome in this rite. Blessed Be.

b. To the South, I invite the powers of Fire To burn away regrets and shine your gentle rays upon me for growth. I invite the firedrakes, the noon, the summer. I do summon, stir and call you up- come! Be welcome in this rite. Blessed Be.

c. To the West, I invite the powers of Water To cleanse me of negativity and purify my thoughts. I invite the mermaids, the twilight, the autumn. I do summon, stir and call you up- come! Be welcome in this rite. Blessed Be.

d. To the North, I invite the powers of Earth let you?re renewing strength bury all ills and open new paths before me. I invite the gnomes, the midnight, the winter. I do summon, stir and call you up- come! Be welcome in this rite. Blessed Be.

4. Ring the bell 3 times and say:

This is winter solstice, the longest night of the year. Darkness reigns triumphant, yet gives away and changes into light. The sun king has gone into Emainia. Yet, within the sacred cauldron of rebirth he is once more transformed into the newborn divine child of light.

5. Put a little more incense in the censer and say:

All is cold, and I await the coming of dawn. As the sun rises, the triple goddess once more gives birth to the divine child. In silence and wonder I stand before the sacred cauldron of rebirth, knowing that one day I too must pass through the cauldron and be reborn. For this I now give honor to the triple goddess.

6. Light the white candle near the cauldron and say:

White if for the maiden. May you plant your seeds of joy and new beginnings within my life.

7. Light the red candle near the cauldron and say:

Red is for the mother. May you plant your seeds of joy and new beginnings within my life.

8. Light the black candle near the cauldron and say:

Green is for the newborn lord of the forests, the divine sun child who comes once more into the world. I welcome you, child and consort of the goddess.

9. Take the bell and go to the east. Ring the bell once and say:

Rejoice o powers of air! Welcome the divine child.

10. Take the bell and go to the south. Ring the bell once and say:

Rejoice o powers of fire! Welcome the divine child.

11. Take the bell and go to the west. Ring the bell once and say:

Rejoice o powers of water! Welcome the divine child.

12. Take the bell and go to the north. Ring the bell once and say:

Rejoice o powers of earth! Welcome the divine child.

13. Go back to the altar and stand facing east. Ring the bell 3 times and say:

Hail, o god of the woodlands and new life! I give you honor and ask your blessing.

14. Stand in silence to receive the blessing. Ring the bell 3 times again and say:

Hail, triple goddess, bringer of light out of darkness and new life out of the cauldron of rebirth. I give you honor and ask your blessing.

15. Stand in silence to receive the blessing. Place the wine chalice on the pentacle for a moment and lift it high and say:

To the old gods! Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again.

16. Drink the wine, save some to put outside for the little people.

18. When fished end: Release the 4 Quarters: Walk in a counter-clockwise circle starting at East ?

19. Open the circle: Cut the circle with knife and Use hand and walk counter-clockwise beginning at the East and say ?I send this circle into the cosmos to do my bidding, the circle is undone but not broken.
