It is a common misconception that skipping meals will accelerate weight loss because you are eating less. In fact, exactly the opposite is true. Skipping meals can lead to food cravings, binge eating and weight gain. This is because you are more likely to overeat and choose high calorie, high fat foods when you are extremely hungry.

Studies show that people who skip breakfast and eat fewer times during the day are heavier than those who eat breakfast and four to five small meals a day. Eating regularly helps you maintain a higher metabolic rate so that you burn more calories, and it helps control your appetite.

When you do not eat for a prolonged period of time, like when you skip a meal, your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows down to preserve energy. This means that your body will compensate for the inadequate calories by burning fewer calories than it normally would. When your body goes into starvation mode it does not draw from its fat stores for energy, and this makes it virtually impossible to lose weight. Once you do eat, your body will store those calories, rather than use them, because it expects you to starve it again.

If you are dieting, do it the healthy way by following a well-balanced diet that includes all the food groups, and do not skip meals. You are more likely to lose weight if you eat regularly throughout the day. Eating smaller meals more frequently helps keep both your blood sugar and your metabolism on an even keel allowing you to feel better, burn more calories and lose weight.

Perfect Joy--- I was going to try and explain that, but you did it more eloquently than I ever could, and I Thank You SO Much....

I thought I would post some meal plans that I follow and have been so successful for me, but I thought I would see if everyone would like that.

Despite the fact that I know the pitfalls of not eating properly, I will probably continue to do it each time I want to drop a few pounds...  But I want you to know that I don't continue that way.... It only takes a little while and you 'feel' the result.  Anybody can lose 5 pounds in two or three days.  AND yes, I also know that I'm not into the 'fat' just yet... but it sure feels good having that fluid off... lol  ... After a few days, I then began eating selectively for the next week or so  and before you know it I say  ""Ahhhh Shit.  I don't have to be tiny... I'm married""""  ...   Within a month, the diet is Over.. lol ...

I am quite pleased that you all have taken the time to try to educate me and promote some good eating habits... That's what I need.  I want you to know that I'm only bad for a short time... then I'm good for a couple of weeks and then I go back to not giving a hoot... Twice a year I drop a few pounds... Springtime and jsut before Christmas..  That's me...That's what I do.!!..  Someday, I just might stay at it longer or get myself into a good gym program...  but I'm not gonna dwell on being overweight... At 64, Shag it!!!

It's a well-known fact that the female human being will never stop dreaming of the perfect shape, the perfect weight, (the perfect husband...lol) and we'll never have it...LOL.. We all try to be perfect, but we had just better learn to be happy that we are here, that we all enjoy some quality of life  and we are not mentally or physically waiting for the end.  I'll play out this diet for a little while longer and then it is thoughts like that finish the diet... I Lack Motivation.... Oh well.

But again...A sincere thanks to Joanie, Betty and now Joy... I know, I know.. lol!   Luvs' Ya....   Joanie:  I'll be looking for those healthy recipes... I do eat pretty good healthy food all the time.  but I like trying something new, especially snacks..  My downfall is bread and picking between meals..  I'll be doing the three day Heart and Stroke thing beginning tomorrow.. .. Hmmmm... Toast for breakie!!!!! LOL

OK Carrie - I'm backing off - you know what you want to do.

So have your toast....I do every day....1/2 slice of texas raison cinnamon - num num.....I have a 1/3 cup of  Vector with a bit of Guardian added and fruit and Yogurt on top....I also have a boiled egg. This is not starvation....It is very filling - full of good fibre and just sets up the day....As a matter of fact, it is so filling that you don't feel hungry, but I still have a lunch comprised of some carbs and cals and are satisfied for the rest of the day, and I eat a good healty supper and have a snack of protein before bedtime.....It's all healthy eating....Note that I don't eat sweets on a regular basis, but when we went out to supper last Monday for our anniversary I shared a hugh piece of chocolate layer cake with Alex and by's it was some good.   I was afraid that it might have an adverse effect on my blood sugars, but NOT - so a treat every now and then is a good thing. lol
Loves Ye me duckies....I'm available if you want support and/or info for healthy eating.

Don't back off too far Joanie:   What is Guardian?... Sounds like a great  Breakfast!  Now, give me some examples of good midday snacks... I do enjoy having  my breakie around 10 am , a couple of hours after I get up,  but lunch I can do without...To really get into this, I would have to know the ideal calorie intake for  a woman, my age.  After all these years, I have never bothered to know the basics of a good menu.  I hate the word 'Diet"...

I could have a light lunch at about at 9 -  9:30 at nighttime tho'....same as having cereal or something.  I just finished a whole pink grapefruit.  I will have a cuppa around 10 and that will be it for today.... That's the kind of thing I eat nighttime when cutting back..  Love those chips anad cheezies to damn much...I generally don't have too many sweets...although I'm always baking them for Bob and company.

Keep posting my buddy.... I am not joking when I said I think I could follow your meal guide/menu.  Until later...
