Basic Stitches
Ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc.
Candle
Note: Work in continuous rnds; do not join or turn unless otherwise started. Mark first st of each rnd.
Rnd 1: Starting at top, with I hook and white, ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6 sc made)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12)
Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) around. (18)
Rnd 4: (Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) around. (24)
Rnd 5: Working this rnd in front lps, for Ruffle, (sc in next st, ch 3) around.
Rnd 6: Working this rnd in back lps of rnd before last, sc in first st, ch 1 (sc and ch-1 counts as hdc), hdc in each st around.
Rnds 7-25: Repeat rnds 5 and 6 alternately, ending with rnd 5.
Rnd 26: Working this rnd in back lps of rnd before last, sc in first st, ch 1, hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. (30 hdc)
Rnd 27: Working this rnd in front lps, for Base, join red with sc in first st,ch 1, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around. (40)
Rnd 28: Sc in first st, ch 1, hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around. (50)
Rnd 29: Sc in first st, ch 1, hdc in each of next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around. (60)
Rnd 30: Sc in first st, ch 1, hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st, (hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. (70)
Rnd 31: Working this rnd in back lps, join green with sl st in first st, (ch 3, 2 dc) in same st, 3 dc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch-3. Fasten off.
Flame
With I hook and yellow, ch 6, sl st in second ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 chs, hdc in each of next 2 chs, ch 1, working in remaining lps on opposite side of ch, 2 sc in next ch, sc in next 5 chs, ch 2, sl st in second ch from hook, working across first sts, sc in next 5 sts, sl st in next st. Fasten off.
Sew bottom edge of Flame centered over on rnd 1.
Flower (make 4 white, 4 red)
Rnd 1: With F hook, ch 2, (sc , ch 2) 4 times in second ch from hook, sc in same ch, join with hdc in first sc (joining ch sp made). (5 sc made)
Rnd 2: For Petals, sl st in joining ch sp, ch 4, sl st in second ch from hook, dc in same ch sp, sc around post of last dc made (see illustration), ch 1, sl st in same ch sp, ch 1, (sl st in next ch sp, ch 4, sl st in second ch from hook, dc in same ch sp, sc around post of last dc made, ch 1, sl st in same ch sp, ch 1, skip next st) 4 times, join with sl st in first sl st. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: For Leaves, working behind Petals, join green with sl st in first st on rnd 1, (ch 4, sl st in second ch from hook, dc, sc around post of last dc made, ch 1, sl st) in same st as first sl st, ch 2, *(sl st, ch 4, sl st in second ch from hook, dc, sc around post of last dc made,ch 1, sl st) in next st on rnd 1, ch 2; repeat from * around, join with sl st in joining sl st. Fasten off.
Using yellow on red Flowers and red on white Flowers, embroider three French knots in center of each Flower.
Alternating red and white Flowers, tack center two Leaves together forming a ring; tack top two Leaves on Flowers to rnd 24 of Candle and center two Leaves to rnd 29
