Hi Ruthie

Nice to make your acquaintance

I'm doing great - house is full of the delectable aromas that broadcast the preparation of stuffing, candied yams, turkey and more.  Yummmmmmmmm.

I'm in Baytown, Texas, about 10 miles due east of Houston.  Dark outside, lighting flashing in the distance from the north.  Getting caught up for mid-terms next week (court reporting steno student here), and enjoying a nice cup of coffee.

And where are you and yours?  Country, city??  Getting ready for that yearly ride on the triptophan express?

Hi Scooter (is this what you prefer to be called?),

It's nice to meet you as well.  I won't have the house full of aromas until I get to my dad's tomorrow.  He's cooking (except for the stuffing and the gravy...I'm making those).  I can't wait for the turkey and stuffing...those are my favorites.

How are your courses going?  Did you get caught up on your work for mid-terms yet?  I was almost a professional student...lol.  I couldn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up so I just kept going to school for various Associate Degrees.  I have one in Word Processing, one in Medical Transcription and one in Early Childhood Education.  I also have a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education (minor in Early Childhood Education).  I'm licensed to teach in both Michigan and Wisconsin.

You mentioned it was lightening outside...I love watching thunder and lightening storms.  They are so relaxing to me.

I was born and raised in Wakefield, Michigan.  I currently reside in Woodruff, Wisconsin (about 45 miles from where I grew up).  I've been living in Wisconsin for about 5 1/2 years now.

Are you married?  Have any kids?  Feel free to tell me anything you'd like me to know about yourself and also to ask anything you'd like to know about me.

Take care,
Ruthie

Hi again -

Hope your Thanksgiving was enjoyable.  We had a nice day.  Didn't travel or have anyone over because JoAnne (wifey) had surgery last week - carpel tunnel in both hands, but she is recuperating fine and is healing nicely (knock wood).  We had a nice turkey we got from a local group that sells fully cooked turkeys over the holidays to raise money for charity.  Between the two of us we managed to put together a nice little feast and enjoyed a nice quiet day of good food and no phone calls.  Those are pretty rare around here, meaning the quiet part, not the food lol.

Scooter is fine - took that screen name in honor of my little min pin, Scooter. That little dog with the wagging tail I sign with is a pic I took of him and then animated the tail in PSP.

I like stormy weather too - grew up in Galveston, Texas, and always liked to head to the beach when it got blustery, just to feel the wind against my face.  Invigorating.

I'm married to JoAnne, who is from Connecticut.  She's ten years younger than me, but a pretty sharp lady.  I've been married before and have three sons and a daughter, and seven grandchildren with one on the way.

Will be putting the weekend to good use getting caught up on some assignments in my shorthand class.  Have to have them in by Monday for mid-term but am on schedule to finish in time.  I really am enjoying this course, and still trying to make up my mind which direction to go for a career - so many choices:
official court reporter, freelance, CART, captioning <----(kind of leaning that way).  Will be finishing theory this semester, then on to speeeeeeeeed - whooooosh lol.

And now we get into my favorite time of year, Christmas.  Will be putting up decorations and such starting tomorrow - I always wait till AFTER Thanksgiving, wish the stores and such would.  No Thanksgiving around here whatsoever, they went straight to Christmas TWO WEEKS AGO - Kroger, Home Depot, Target, Walmart - sad.

Oh well, enough of that.

Which degree are you working in?  Intrigued with the word processing - such a fascinating field.  Publishing, writing, art.  Lots of good stuff there.

Better close and get some more work done lol.

Looks like a bit of fluffy white stuff headed your way - lay in a good stock of cocoa lol.

Hey Scooter ~

How are you doing today?  I'm having a nice relaxing day at home...absolutely no plans other than to cook dinner later.  I very rarely have days like this and I'm loving it.

My Thanksgiving was okay...nice and quiet which is very unusual for my family.  We went to my dad's in Michigan for the afternoon.  We all ate lots of food and then I took a nap in the afternoon on my dad's recliner and then we came home.  Very uneventful which is always good.

I put up a small 3-ft. Christmas tree yesterday and decorated it.  It's the first time I've decorated for Christmas since moving out on my own about 5 1/2 years ago.

I know what you mean...the stores around here had the Christmas stuff going up before Halloween.  I don't believe in that.  Other than doing some shopping early if I see something on sale I don't do anything for Christmas until after Thanksgiving.

I'm am currently working in the teaching field.  After graduating in December 2000 with my Bachelor Degree in Education I did substitute teaching for a semester and I loved that...but there were no benefits.  I then taught for one school year at a Catholic School.  I loved teaching there but the pay was so low that I couldn't afford to stay there.  I taught a first and second grade combination class there.  I had 7 first graders and 3 second graders in my class.

In 2002 is when I moved to Wisconsin and began teaching at a tribal head start program and have been there ever since.  I taught for 2 years in their Early Head Start and then 2 years in their 3-5 yr. old Head Start.  I am currently the Education and Disability Coordinator (management) for the whole program and I supervise our 18 teaching staff.  I've been doing this job for a little over a year now and I really enjoy it except when I had to fire one of my staff members last spring...that part of the job sucked.

I do use my word processing degree in my job though.  I have a lot of typing and paperwork to do but with my business background I enjoy it.

We've had a little bit of snow the past couple of days but where I live we really don't get as much as I was used to growing up in Upper Michigan.  When we get a storm here in Woodruff, WI where I live we usually get about 4-6 inches of snow overnight (occasionally a little more but not often).  In Upper Michigan where I grew up I was used to getting as much as 20-24 inches of snow during a storm so there is a huge difference where I live now.

I need to get showered so I better get off here soon.  Take care!

Ruthie
