Here ya go Giz,  Fred Thompsion is thinking of running for president.  Does anyone here other than me think he would be a great president?  I know he would have my vote right now.

And I wonder if the Law and Order's he is on will have to be stopped while he is running?  He played the DA on the show and I bet others running would cry equal time law.

jayyr,

he has a impressive voting record on the Issues and I doubt he will run...I think the republicans see the writing on the wall... I just don't think America wants another republican president.. The numbers i am seeing point in the direction of anybody but a republican.. right wrong or indifferent according to zogby America is going to vote against the GOP no matter who runs...I don't care if Eisenhower was running I wound not vote a republican in office.. and he was one of my favorate presidents...I want to see a change and the gop is not going to do what needs to be done...They have had their chance ....

Giz,

the election is a long ways off and a lot can happen in that time.  i have faith the american people will vote for who they think is the best person and not a party line.
i don't think he's going to run either,  which is part of this countries problems.  we need good people to run who are not part of the problem.

Jayyr,

I agree that we need good pepole to run.. but you need money to run and lots of it.. The truth is Jayyr that if you or I wanted to run we could not.. at least not effectivly...you have to be rich or have the support of one of the parties to run and win...it's that simple.. We are in need of some reform in this area as well...sooo what do we do, we choose a party whose agenda is as close to what we think is right as we can.. then we call our selves Moderates....lol.. we say that we vote the man or woman but reality is we vote for the party as much or more than the person because the party nominates the people running...they controll our choices...I am a firm beleaver in our forefathers vision that our elected officals should be regular people that come to serve for four years  and then go back to their regular life.. In short i'm not with the carear politition thing...I think there is a lot of wisdom in that train of thought...Our leders most of the time are out of touch with the wants and needs of the regular guy and gal that works for a living.. you know, the people who are paying top dollar for gas that realy can't afford it while the oil companyies report record profits...i mean, congress will vote them selves in a raise and we can't even get them to bring minimum wage up to povery level... what up with that? Most politions children go to private school and don't have to deal with the morons that run our public school system..The truth is most of our leaders will get paid for the rest of their life and live a good life at that.. with heath care...lol.. ohhh yea their children will get a collage education wiil yours or mine... i don't know anymore.. at this point i cant afford it

hell giz,  term limits is something i have always been torn about over.  on one had it sounds good and keeps one group of ppl from gaining to much power.  on the other hand is we need people in office with enough time to understand what they are doing.  in the begining we had that covered.  with elections held at different times so we couldnt' have a whole new goverment ever 4 years.
But the world has gotten so big and the issues so importent sometimes to do the best job we need someone who has been in office many, many years.

So lets fix the system,  the two of us.   first off the goverment funds every race and you get the money is enough people sign for you to be on the ballot.  No other funds of any kind aloud.  No PAC money,  No special intesst money.  No 25,000 people from the same damn group sending in the limit.

Between the ages of 18 and 22 years old everyone must put at least 2 years in the service or another program that helps people.  Its not only the right thing to do but it instills pride of county in our children.

And no more of the BS that its not PC to say  and teach our kids this is the best country in the world.  It seems we are the only nation that feels it's wrong to teach pride of country to our youth.  We have done many many great things and we have a lot to be proud of.

Any child with a 3.0 grade av.  gets fully funded for collage.  They may have to live at home but the classes and books are paid by all of us.  It's an investment in our future as well as theirs.

We remember that the people that we want to protect us deserve our respect.  If a cop shoot someone and it turns out the other guy didn't really have a gun, knife, ect we don't just toss him in jail.  If he really thought he or the public was in danger its a grave mistake but not a crime.  We fire him because we know it was a mistake in judgement to hire him in the first place.

I don't care when other countries start their kids in school.  I don't care how smarter than our kids their kids are.  Our country has made the advances it has because we dream higher.  Preschool at 4 is stupid.  Let kids learn to be kids and how to dream.  Smart only takes you so far.  Our dreaams know no limit.

Your turn to add or cut........

This is turning into a great thread - Giz and JR both make excellent and valid points, and the only thing I'd add is I'd like to see us adopt a couple of practices that are law in the United Kingdom:

Lawyers - in the British system, they have the legal profession divided primarily into two separate paths: Solicitors, who do the legal work in law offices and such; and Barristers, who argue one side or the other in the courts.

The second thing I think we should adopt is the way the Brits run their elections.  Electioneering and campaigning are restricted to I think six months - no campaigning or even announcing before that time; hence the elected representative is spending their time doing what they were elected to do rather than start campaingning for reelection two years before the polls even open.

I don't know about that scooter,

our laws were made to be different from those in the UK.  but one think we alow really gets to me.  if you are going to run for office while you are holding office you should hav to resign the one you are in.

ON THE VERY BRIGHT SIDE,,,,,,

I watched Thompson this morning on TV saying he is really thinking about running!!!!

not so sure on that one giz,  she hasn't done herself much good the past few weeks.  you have to remember there is a long time to go before anyone votes.
first i just don't think this nation is ready to elect any woman for president yet.  and sad to say ready to elect any black yet.  it will come in time,  but this is not that time.  we still have to grow a bit.

even if we were ready,  this woman could never win.  she just has to much in her past and in the long run the people just don't trust her.

I think thompson has a great chance of winning ( unless they use the wiseguy clips against him. lol )  and thompson has shown he is not in anyones pocket and isn't likely to be.

we are just going to have to watch what happens to each over the next few months.  the main difference will be the amount of dirt tossed around.  And the Dem's seem to do that the most to their own people.

i think if people who have been brain washed by the media can clear the cobwebs out of their heads and think for themselves, something positive can come out of the election ahead. i dont like the liberal/conservative arguments. i dont like that you are labeled as a republican or a democrat or an independent... id like to think of my self simply as an american with an opinion, and i wish more people would feel the same way. i think if we can get away from all the partisan politics and simply deal the the issues at hand without all the pork in the bills and the political crap that goes with it we would all be much better off. and finally i think that mr. thompson would be a person who would cut the crap and get to the point. if more poloticians would stop playing games and start doing their jobs this country wouldnt be in the mess its in now...thats my nickle on the story.(inflation has increased the two cents to five, and the increased fuel costs also make speculation slightly more expensive...lol)

Awww John,

There lies the rub of it all.  We elect the people who we think feel as we do on most matters.  But the way it should work is we elect someone to do a job and he or she votes the way THEY think is right.

The fact that so many feel they can run is great.  Not sure how to debate the rest of what you wrote.  LOL
