The trouble is the people responsible for these policies simply cant tell the difference between a beating and a sharp non injurious reminder used when kids ignore their parents and dont behave.Just for the record four children all with successful careers eighteen grandchildren, never beaten any of them but the timely slap across the arse worked wonders when they were younger.

Says it all!!
Don't know if you meant the whole thread to come up Ash, but it makes them real people who think the way I do!! I take my hat off to them

Yep Shef, I did post the link to the entire thread ......
I subscribe to Police blogs and BBs from across the world, and most are populated by really sensible people with life skills - which is more than can be said for the tossers promulgating the legislation.
This particular item, is exactly what is happening in NZ now.  Kids are ringing the cops and they are required to attend and clear the matter in a specific way, almost always involving giving the [usually] father a record - if in fact he is not arrested.
One of the correspondants hit the nail - a new generation of young cops including the section supervisor, have been turned out of the college trained to deal with domestic matters in only one way.  There is no thought of common sense.  Its "ticky box time," and if the box for a line of action isnt there, then that line of action doesnt exist.

Something said in one of those comments struck me as so true.  Oncer the police step in and take action against the parent, what hope is there of a normally functioning family.  Some kids are too clever for their own good.  Maybe they should have bought in a divorce law for parents who have come to the end of their tether with out of control teens.  I bet the kds would walk over hot coals to come back into the fold after a week or so!!! That isnt the regularly bashed ones, I mean the sort of scenario that blog is dealing with.

Unfortunately the parents are either don't even seriously consider calling the cops when the child hits them or the child (and I use that term deliberately) is smart enough never to hit the parent.

If the offical reaction is going to be so over the top it has to inpact on the child to the same degree as the parent for the "crime" of lashing out with a single smack. Unfortunately that is not the case.
