Good news Brownie. Been off it for 5 years myself now. [this time round ] I used patches thisis time, and I have no doubt at all, that using replacement therapy works, be it patches or gum.     Stick with it.  It adds up.  In that 5 years, I have calculated that at $20 average per packet of tobacco, I have had $10,400 to spend on other things. [I'm buggered if I know what I spent it on though........ ] |

ewcommend     I like that Brownie. Recommending something that makes you go 'ew' . A new word has been created        When I quit back in 2000, I bought some of that gum. I never chewed any of it, as they looked rather 'ew' . So I went cold turkey instead. I went for runs, to help get the lungs working and blood pumping (And speed up the removal of nicotine from the body), I drank lots and lots and lots of water. I washed my hands and cleaned my teeth often (To get a nice clean taste and smell, as opposed to a bad taste and smell from ciggies). And my favourite 'give up smoking' strategy - Eating lots of king size chocolate bars |

Keeping going Browine you are doing great.       I stop seven years ago and only now every have one if I drink large amounts.  I thought I would have while been home cos I really wanted one at times but held off. |

I understand its harder to kick than Heroin.  I have no knowlege of being addicted to heroin, but I see no reason to doubt those who have kicked both.     I went cold turkey the time before and lasted 10 years before starting again. Without any doubt whatsoever, the patches made it far, far easier to give up.      Every so often, I still get the urge to have a smoke - even after 5 years.  It only lasts a few seconds, and I know with my previous record, that if I had one I would be away on 40 a day again..................... |

Tobacco never had any hold on me. I used to have the odd cigarette- usually out in the bush, around the campfire. \ These days, its a cigar once or twice a year and the odd pipe. |

After feeling like crap for weeks and having heaps of blood tests last week the doctor thinks he has figured out what is wrong with me. I am over medcated and having some huge reactions to my blood pressure medication. Thanks to giving up smoking my blood pressure has dropped remarkedly and seems I am on far too high a dosage now.    From tomorrow I am dropping one pill and maybe another one in a couple of weeks. So  giving up smoking certainly lowered my blood pressure. Eventually I might feel good about it.       |
