Gran calls for ban on police pursuits Cant this bint understand what will happen? What should happen, is motorists be advised that if they make a run for it, they will be pursued until either they crash, or they stop. Cops are often being told now, when they chase and stop a motorist, that he thought that cops wern't allowed to chase them and thats why he made a run for it. |

What the general public don't realise is that when we have a pursuit (that bloody P word!!!) every little concern is taken into consideration over and over and over again repeatedly. Most pursuits are short and are abandoned at any sign or hint of concern by either the Shift Commander or the Pursuing Officer. Pursuits are certainly not taken lightly. They certainly get my heart rate going up when I hear that ... "I'm in pursuit ..." In a nut shell it's really simple though - if the Police put on their red and blues indicating you to stop - STOP! |

The termally stupid are always with us. The problem is sometimes they speak to reporters. It was a bit of a freak accident, there was a reasonable chance that the drunk driver would have hit that pole regardless of whether any one was chasing him. |

In the final analysis, it is the fault of the grandmother anyway. If she had brought up her children to respect the law, and for and ensured they instilled respect for the law into their children in turn, the wannabe Stirling Moss would still be alive. |

While I'm very sorry for the injuries the boy sustained, if we followed grandma's advice and banned pursuits, would that lower the risk of innocent people being injured? It makes me wonder if the child was injured and the police weren't pursuing the car, wouldn't she then be jumping up and down demanding to know why there were no police around. You oh so can't win! |

Actually, the thought flitted across my mind when I read that - what if it is a woman driving? |

Don't know LB. We are cunningly designed in such a way to prevent that. But being as there are women who are just as feral if not more so then men out there we need to work on that. |
