Hi all.  Have been in ChCh for the past few weeks as my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 weeks ago and has undergone a mastectomy.  I went down to support her and help Dad.  Mum finds out next Monday whether she needs to have radiation therapy but the surgeon is confident that he has got the lot and her prognosis for the future is good.  It has been a heck of a shock to us all.

On top of that my youngest girl has to spend the day at Wellington Hospital on Thursday for a renogram.  That is where they put an IV line in and inject some radiation then do a special scan.  As she lost a kidney just before she was born and thatlost kidney has left a bulge on her bladder we need a scan to see if the bulge is pulsating.  If it is pulsating she will need surgery to remove the bulge and close a small hole in her bladder.

We are really lucky that in both cases the specialists have moved on these problems really quickly and neither Mum or my daughter has had to wait longer than 4 weeks to be seen to.

My thoughts are with you Welly. Hope your Mum continues to make a good recovery and they have got it all.

As for your daughter - best wishes. Be assured that Wellington Hospital boasts extremely fine Renal Specialists. They have a fantastic reputation!

What is it about this time of year and family issues?

I hope all the tests have good or treatable results Welly.
