I know it's a contradiction in terms (nice and vegetarian), but does anyone know of anything that might fulfil those requirements? I tend to treat vegetables as garnish or if you want them nice you cook them with meat or some sort of meat stock. So I'm rather stumped on how to do mains without meat being involved. Unfortunately it needs to impress. The inedible thing known as tofu is not an option. |

No fish as an option Unfortunately I invited people over not realising a number of them are vegetarians . I should have pointed out I need recipes since I said I would cook (note for next time, find out eating habits before blundering in with invites.) There went my plan for an easy lamb roast |

I do a vege dish that everyone here likes. broccoli cauliflower zucchini red pepper yellow pepper green pepper mushrooms Cut into thinnish wedges and place in baking dish. Add 1 tin of washed red kidney beans and smother in cheese sauce. Cover that in a thick layer of breadcrumbs and then a mix of sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Bake until cooked (I make it - I don't time it). For the cheese sauce I find a mix of Edam, mozzarella and Parmesan (fresh) is best. It should come out like a unlayered lasagna. It's filling and non-meat. You can substitute any veges you want, but that mix is the best I have found so far. You are screwed if they are vegan though. |

And, Caps, have you seen chickens eat meat?? OH
MY GOD !!!!!!! I don't think I will ever eat chicken again. They say they are the closest surviving relation to Tyrannosaurus Rex, and after watching that performance, well, I can truly see why. But it does give me a brilliant idea what to do with the amputated scrotum of adult men who try to get it on with my daughter! They would have to watch of course. It just wouldn't be the same if I didn't make them watch. |

Thanks Karey. While I've been informed they eat cheese, I haven't been able to clarify whether that includes cheeses made with animal retin (which are the normal cheeses). I'm also looking at stuff that contains high level of protein, so I'm guessing I'm looking at nuts and Neil's favourite "lentils". I thought the t-rex's closest modern relative was the sparrow? Yes, I tend to agree caps. Cattle are simply sources of grass made edible and what not. |

Tell them there is a change of plan and it is now a pot luck dinner with everybody bringing a different vegetarian dish. They'll be keen to convert you with their favourite recipes. I've even had tofu that was so yummy Marinated and deep fried with a chillie soy and garlic sauce. Deep fried camembert with plum sauce is good too. Especially if they can eat cheese. And if they eat eggs there is spinach or asparagus quiche. But Id say hey guys potluck!! |

I meant to reply with thanks Karey. I modified the dish and included leeks, and an assortment of nuts and seeds. I also made a vegetarian pizza. The food went down well. Pity about the rest of the evening, but at least the food was good |
