I read in today's Dominion Post that Alan Astridge has died. he had cancer and was really ill for a time last year but returned to work on light duties, then up to full strength. Alan was in CVIU for a number of years but more recently worked in Hastings Traffic.

Cheers Ali.  Sad news - I didnt know Alan well, we had a few dealings. but usually whenever I wanted his assistance, he was somewhere in southern HB!

.... in Southern Hawkes Bay or out fishing! When he said he was on surveillance, it meant he was on 'Surveillence' his boat.

There was a huge turn out for his funeral. A lot of people including staff spoke. Alan was well liked and respected. Even some of the truckies he'd regularly ticketed got up and spoke saying that he was always fair.

He had a full Guard of Honour which was incredibly moving. There were 4 Dog Handlers and the Canine Partners there. Alan's casket was carried out to the Bagpipes playing "I Am My Country" which was absolutely haunting.
