Usually Burger King are reliable- the burgers are the best mass-produced fast food out there- and in this case they were of the usual acceptable standard for factory fodder.

HOWEVER- the Paraparaumu BK itself proved to be a poorly run example of why we have Council lackeys inspecting such places (without any effect, of course)

This place had low standards, which they failed to achieve. The floor looked like they were experimenting with using soft drink residue to increase traction and reduce slip hazards. It reminded me of the Trentham Camp Baggies Bar, where years of coagulated beer prevented one slipping over when wearing Nomads and one walked with a squelching sound.

Normally a BK is sparking and a model of cleanliness. This one was grimy- the buildup of filth on the window frames gave evidence that this was an on-going problem. The aged piece of lettuce on the back of my seat had obviously been there for some time, going by it's advance state of decomposition. (it was grey)

We arrived at noon. During the extended wait while they stuffed up a simple order, a slattern arrived to clear the tables of debris and spread the bacteria evenly with a sponge that had not been recently acquainted with hot water or disinfectants.

The children's play area had been overrun with feral kiddies who gave indications of having passed puberty, even if they had never hit the median score on an IQ test.

The soft drink station was awash with spilled crud and scattered straws. An endless precession of the mindless continued to fill assorted containers- non purchased on the premises with the sugared stimulant of choice. The staff seemed oblivious to this.

As is not uncommon, I had to badger the minimum wage workers for the remainder of our order that they had previously agreed to deliver [insert Tui ad here]

Now all the other BK's I have patronized have been good- clean and efficient and this is not to say I recommend avoiding them- just that hole of pestilence at Paraparaumu!

Lulu & Shaun came home from their first Health Education class at high school with the information that 2 Mcd's cheese burgers release the same number of endorphins as sex.

I want to know which Mcd's that study was undertaken at.

The one is Hawera is very flash looking Kiwi - it almost doesn't look like a McDonalds.  Haven't eaten there yet.  May have to give it a go when I go back up to New Plymouth in a couple of weeks!

Not really relevant, but the place closing I regret the most, was Georgie Pie.
I liked their pies, especially the fruit ones.

mmm..... that chinese style pork pie was my favourite along with the blackberry and apple.
I used to get one or both for dinner at Greenlane when I was running late for Heather's 6pm feed at National Woman's. They were still good when reheated in the SCBU microwave.

I miss Georgie Pie too.  The cheap pies - which I know was their downfall.  But they were the best when you were on a student income.

I know my kids would have loved going there!

Dear

Firstly my apologies for your experience you received from our store in Paraparaumu, and for the less than satisfactory service.

I have sent copy of your email through to our Senior Restaurant Manager (Not Shift Restaurant Manager) of the Paraparaumu restaurant along with a copy to their Area Manager concerned, who will investigate further on the issues you have bought to our attention.

I have asked that one of them contacts you via email to discuss these issue further as well.

We appreciate feed back such as yours so we are able to establish potential training issues and policy procedures that need our attention for the individual stores.

Again apologies for your experience, and hope this experience will not put you off visiting any of our Burger King stores in the future.

Kind Regards

Lisa McMahon

We have had no reply from the franchise concerned.

I see it confirmed that is a waste of time complaining to them and now to the NZ master franchise. You have proven you have no concern for food safety or customer service.

In future, I will be in direct contact with the local food licencing authorities and the news media.

Chomp on chicken hits a raw nerve

An Invercargill father of three has a bone to pick with McDonald's after his wife took a chomp out of a mostly raw chicken fillet burger bought at the fast-food restaurant.

Blah blah and BLAHEW
