Exorcisms

When we hear the word "exorcism," we probably imagine the scene from the movie, "The Exorcist," with Linda Blair spitting up green pea soup and her head spinning around and around. Quite a memorable scene of a young girl being possessed by an evil spirit, or perhaps, even Satan himself.

Can something like that really happen? Yes - the movie was based on a real event. Does possession by a spirit manifest itself the way the movie showed? Sometimes. More likely than not, possession by a spirit of a person or an object (such as a house, piece of jewelry or furniture) is not as violent as we saw in "The Exorcist, yet something must be done to cleanse ourselves and our possessions. Exorcisms are necessary and should be performed much more often than most people think.

What exactly does exorcism mean? According to the dictionary definition, exorcism means "to expel (an evil spirit) by or as if by incantation or adjuration; to free from evil spirits." That's an easy definition but not a complete one. We also need to exorcise ourselves and our homes of negative energies.

Negative Energies

Negative energies can come in many different forms, not just through negative spirits, although that is probably the most prevelant. There are spirits on the lower levels of the astral plane who want nothing more than to attach themselves to a living person, drawing off their energies, draining the person of vitality and vigor, and making that person just downright miserable.

There are also spirits that can penetrate the mind of a person, someone who is at his or her lowest ebb and has left him/herself open to the lower level entities, allowing the spirit(s) to draw off energies and attack the person's very thoughts and values. It is also necessary to note that negative energies can invade or attach themselves to houses, objects, furniture, cars, and jewelry.

Have you have ever felt uneasy, for no apparent reason, just walking into a house?

Has the house you've lived in for several years suddenly felt unwelcoming, coinciding with the arrival of a piece of antique furniture or vase you picked up at an estate sale?

Did you buy a used car and find yourself suddenly involved in numerous "fender-benders," even though you've never had an accident before?

Do you feel angry, irritated, sad, or depressed every time you wear the pin (or ring or bracelet or necklace) Aunt Millie left you in her will?

If you can answer "yes" to any of these questions, it is more than possible that a negative energy has attached itself to you and/or your much loved possessions and needs to be exorcised.

Changing The Negative To a Positive

Changing the negative energies in our lives to positive energies can be simple or complicated, depending on the energy itself.

For example, if you're an antique lover and you frequent the antique stores and estate sales, bringing home objects previously owned, you are also bringing home unknown energy.

As we know, everything is made of energy and our possessions are imbued with our own energies as well as the energy that makes up the object. We hope the energy is good, positive energy, but sometimes it isn't. We can take a simple precaution before bringing the object into our home.

Give the object three days exposure to the sun and air before bringing it into your home. This should be enough to dissipate the energy of the previous owner. And - whether you realize it or not - this is a simple exorcism.

A more complicated exorcism would involve ridding a home of negative energies or spirits. In today's age, with new housing developments springing up all over the place, care is usually not taken to see how the land was used in the past.

It should be! Land that was considered sacred by previous inhabitants can (and most likely do) carry the spirits of those people. If those spirits or energies don't like the idea of houses being erected on what they consider "their land," a myriad of problems can ensue.

There are some easy signs to look for, especially if you've just built a house or moved into a new one (whether it's old or just built - it's "new" to you).

Is there tension among family members that never occurred before?

Are members of the family suddenly moody or depressed and there doesn't seem to be any logical reason for it?

If you have a dog or a cat, does the animal suddenly refuse to go into a certain room, or, if it does enter, does it whine or cry whenever it's in that room?

Are you losing things now and chalking it up to a memory loss?

Do you have a hard time sleeping and/or are your dreams more upsetting, sometimes even violent?

Have you walked into a room and felt a sudden blast of cold air, even though it's warm in the rest of the house?

These are a few signs that could mean your house has some unfriendly spirits as inhabitants. Again, there are measures that can be taken to cleanse your home of these unwanted and uninvited "guests."

If you are religious, ask your clergyman or priest to come and bless your home. The ceremony used and the ritual followed is a beautiful one and effective for most negative energies and spirits.

If you aren't religious, burning sage is another effective means of clearing out unwanted energies. And perhaps most important - change your own thought patterns! Dwelling on the negatives in your life is a magnet to spirits to come feed off your negative energy

So When Do I Need An Exorcist
When the above measures don't work!

If you've researched the problem, had the clergyman or priest over to bless your house or smudged it with sage, changed your thought patterns, and you still feel that things aren't just quite right, it's time to call in someone who can "read" the energy patterns surrounding you, your family, and your home. There obviously is an energy around you that is stronger and can resist a simple exorcism. Stronger measures need to be taken and a full cleansing needs to be done.

While we are not accepting any new clients at this time, we would advise you to do some careful research should you decide to call someone in to help you. Investigate the person thoroughly.

Do Not - under any circumstances - pay anyone who claims he or she can remove a so-called curse from you, your family, or your home. This is scam and we would strongly recommend you report any such person to your local police department.

If you would like to do more research on this subject, we highly recommend getting the book, Psychic Self-Defense by Dion Fortune. The late Dion Fortune is still regarded as an expert in this field, and while the book was first published in London, England, in 1930, it is still quite relevant today and is used by psychics all over the world.
