Cleansing to Keep it Clean
It is very important to cleanse any personal objects that you wish to share, or that are given to you.
According to the principles of magic, personal belongings such as Jewelry, Clothing, locks of Hair carry some of their owner's spirit with them.
These things may remain a link between you and the previous wearer.
If this person is your best friend, a family member, or someone else whom you trust and care for, there should be no problems.
But even so, it is better to perform a ceremonial cleansing ritual, to break the links of fate that the object may carry with it.
A simple way to do this is with table salt.
This method was developed by the early Alchemists.
They thought it would really clean things, like kill germs on food and they were right, Salt can be used to clean many household things.
But we use it in a symbolic way, to signify a cleansing of the "imaginary dirt" that bad tempers, bad memories, bad happenstances can leave on our belongings.
Use Un-iodized salt Kosher salt is great, but regular Morton's will do.
If the item is small, lay it in a dish.
Pour salt over it, and put the dish in a windowsill, where it will catch the rays of the Moon (even if the Moon isn't actually out; the idea is that the white rays of Moonlight energize the white crystals of salt).
*If the item is big, you can sprinkle salt over it, without completely covering it. Shake the salt off the object the next morning.
*If the item seems to have some really bad Karma, perform the cleansing during the full Moon, and make sure that the Moon's rays can reach it.
*If you want to keep a box of salt just for this use, you can place it in a clean, dry, pan and heat it in the stove, or over the burner after using it.
*Heat it plenty hot, it won't burn or smoke- but it will drive the bad energy out so you can use it again.
*Don't just pour "dirty" salt over the next item.
**Never use this salt on your food afterwards, or you will ingest any bad energy that it soaked up.
