CLOTHES:
This exercise involves your clothes. Whatever your wearing I want you to first become aware of the shirt, blouse, sweater that you have on. Start with the neck in back of it. Can you feel the label?
How does it feel....smooth....scratchy....next the material itself, how does it feel....soft, scratchy, heavy, light....what about the back and shoulders area, how does this feel....get into this now! Through your skin 'feel' the material. You can move your shoulders around a little if you like...where do you feel the most of the material at?
And the same, is it soft, scratchy, heavy, light...understand too that parts of us are a little more sensitive than other parts, so work on the ones that you feel less of.....now take you arm and bring it up (if long sleeves if not turn your head and) smell the material....what does it remind you of...what does it smell like?
Do you know that different materials have different smells to them? Also different colors will feel different too. What color is it and how does this color make you feel?
Now go to the rest of the back and do the same thing as above. Now come around to the front. How does it feel across your chest?
Doing the same technique as above, the abdomen do the same. Feel the material on your arms and do the same....find the spots on your upper body that the material isn't touching and feel the surrounding area where it does touch.
Do the same with slacks, jeans, skirts, pajamas, night gowns, robes etc.. Pay attention to your clothes and how they feel against your skin. Your becoming more aware of an outside thing that is touching you. You can do this while standing, walking, sitting or laying down. All of this will bring into motion your ability to 'sense' through this physical touch and make you more aware of your physical surroundings.
SHOES:
If your wearing socks, feel them....wiggle your toes a little, how does the sock feel against them?
Can you feel where perhaps the sock is bunched up or a crease against your toes, or anywhere on your foot?
Now feel your shoe....stretch those toes out and investigate!
Can you determine from this (without looking or remembering), what shape the shoe is?
Move your foot around a little inside the shoe and see what that feels like....feel the material of the shoe itself, is it soft, hard, is the shoe comfortable, uncomfortable, and what color is are the shoes?
How does this color make you feel, what do you think of when seeing this color....what does it remind you of?
Smell the leather or cloth of the shoe....what is the texture, and how does it feel?
You can do the same thing with your undergarments, but will leave that to your imagination! Do this throughout periods of the day and notice every small detail that you feel, sense or pick up on.
