Scrying With Flame

The difference is in the nature of the impressions that can be received.

Mirrors and Crystal Balls are static.

Fire is not. The flames dance and sway.

Pay attention to that. The manner and agitation level of the flame can tell you something as well as the direction in which the flame moves. Occasionally, the flame will change colors. These are all physical manifestations of the element.

On another level, you need to pay attention to the actual images you receive. Sometimes shapes can be seen within the flames. Sometimes it will be images and impressions that seem to formulate in the mind. Be open to them, and like with the mirror, do not try to "grab"  hold of any particular thought or image.

Let them flow, observe, but don't focus on any particular one. That is for later. You may find it helpful to make notes after your sittings of what you have seen and felt. This is often a good way to examine the images in depth without having to break stride during the actual scrying.

It is possible to scry in a candle but a fireplace or a small blaze built in a portable barbecue work the best. because of the multiple sources of flame.

For as long as there has been fire, people have seen visions in it. Shamans would see visions of a good hunt in the campfire and then use its ashes to paint the visions on the cave walls to bring them about.

Perhaps the oldest form of divination, fire scrying is one of the most primal and beautiful methods a witch has for "seeing the unseen".

It is not an easy form, to be sure, but it can produce clearer results than any other method if done well. Basically you look into a fire and see the shapes there.

Take the seeds of images that the fire gives you and apply all the visualization skills you ever learned to get a coherent vision out. If you are not a good visualizer, this method is not for you.

Then you have to figure out what the vision means. Yes, you saw a wolf chasing down a cloud and eating it, but you were wondering if you should take that class at the community college.

Finding an appropriate meaning is often the really hard part. Those searching for visions should find a dark, quiet, and open area.

Cast a circle to set up the ritual space. Then invoke the flames, lighting the scrying bowl at the end of the invocation.

How you invoke depends on your relations to fire. Keep it simple if you are not a fire person, go all out if you are a closet pyromaniac.

Use as little light as possible while casting and invoking. That will help set the mood and will make it easier to see the flames. Any colors you may see will be enhanced by the darkness.

Fire is finicky. If the invoking flame keeps going out or the bowl just will not light, don't force it.

Let it go and try again some other time. You don't want to see the visions that come from unwilling flames coerced into life with the repeated application of flammable liquids and mechanical aids.

Sit comfortably and stare into the fire. Watch the flames and see what shapes they make. Open and shut your eyes repeatedly.

Try to make out the pattern the fire leaves behind your eyes. At first your mind will say it is just the shape of the fire, but put that aside.

Picture the shape that it is most like. See the form it takes. This is not easy. It is the same process you use to see the shapes in the clouds.

When you get a vague image, go with it. Let the shapes change as your vision focuses. Open your eyes again and get a new form to help the vision continue to grow.

Shapes can change and the vision can move. Just let the flames shape the images they will. With practice, supposedly you will move from an image to a movie in your mind again the extent of the imagery you perceive is more a factor of your ability to "visualize" and not a reflection on your psychic ability.

After you have your visions, thank the now departed fire, open the circle, and try to make sense of what you have seen.

Think about what you saw and ask what it means to you. With practice, anyone can see the visions in the flames.

The Direction

Also of the smoke of the flame can tell us a lot. 

Know the Elements and their Directions;

North Flame- with the element of Earth can indicate that true manifestation will be revealed, a physical happening is occurring. Physical labor  can be indicated or a need for stability. If it concerns a health question, you may want a second opinion or be cautious and pay more attention to your health or even that a check up is indicated. If its about finances, be sure your checkbook is in order, make sure you are not allowing frivolous spending habits destroy your savings and too, that you have balanced it within the last month!

South Flame- is the direction of the element of Fire. This is an excellent sign as it may be said to be bringing it directly to the head honcho!!! If it concerns health, a recovery will be imminent. If it concerns love, a passionate love affair is on its way shortly. If it concerns the home, you will find new ideas and the energy to expedite these. If concerned about work, success is on its way! You must be careful with this. As it all sounds wonderful, you must remember, fire can burn if you get too  close, so keep your head on your shoulders through this whirlwind and you should be fine.

East Flame- the element of Air is involved and there will be some mental as opposed to physical labor involved. Its telling you to sit and follow your head in this situation. Practice logic and patience. Think before you speak. A waiting period. No rash decisions! If applied correctly,success will be yours. 

West Flame- the element of Water, you have emotions literally flooding everywhere. It could indicate a period of intense emotions in whatever your desire is. A warning of excess could be indicated. You could be too close to the situation and need to back off it for awhile.

Or it could indicate  that you need to clarify this thing more. Ground yourself. Clear off the emotional aspect of it and look more towards the thinking part. Write all this down in your journal and again, each candle and wish is different, learn to apply it to the present wish.

You must remember the desire when interpreting these signs and apply them to the situation. Sometimes you may not get what you want to hear or see. Learn to incorporate all of the signs you are given.

Separate them when searching them out and then learn how they all interact together. You may get a completely different answer when applied to another of the signs. Also, too, step back then and do some more thinking. Did you clear and calm yourself first? Have you got some leftover emotions hanging out there? Are you willing the candle? Is your attention totally focused? Are you truly being honest with yourself?

These and many other things must be considered when communicating with your candle. Use your journal like a second skin and write it all down and try it again.

On a different day, at a different time. Notice the slight similarities and differences and apply them to the desire and the way in which you approached it this night. You  would be amazed at what you end up reading!

The Candle's Flame

STRONG FLAME -The power that you are calling forth is moving into our desires for manifestation. This strong flame shows strength in the user or object of the spell.

WEAK FLAME - This could mean that the subject is loosing the battle. This can also show that you are facing strong opposition and your magick may have to be repeated.

JUMPING FLAME - This can indicate explosions or bursts of energy being transmitted. Raw emotions or energies could be at work.  

RAINBOW FLAME - If your flame is composed of  various colors, the elemental is communicating with respect to the color codes. Meaning that the energies  are so strong that the corresponding color on the spectrum is manifesting in the flame.
