Problem Fixed! Oh, what a bummer--I know what you're going thru, Mosie. It's such a mess trying to reinstall all the programs, plugins, and then customizing everything. I went thru that several times this spring. I got so frustrated that I finally bought an external hard drive and a program that backs up my entire system with all the programs so that I never have to go thru that aggravation again. I have it set to back up things periodically now, too. How great that you're able to build your own puter! You're a talented lady. Hope you have things all worked out soon. Hugs, Cascade |

Do what I do Mosie! I started this practice long ago when the best I had was dial up service and a 32Kbs modem. I have a seperate file on an off system drive AND a thumb drive (for portability & use in fixing family systems). When I download any sort of a program, plug in or script, I literally DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAM & THEN install it from this file. This way I have the program when/if I have a failure and can instantly upload it. I keep a seperate subfile w/in it of programs that I actually was using and had installed since I do not neccessarily install them all right away but tend towards grabbing when I see them knowing like you I will probably NEVER locate them again when I want them. The onlyplace I do not do this for is the Microsoft Update Center. Additional benefits of doing it this way: a.) it allows me to rename the files from the often indercypherable file names that come on some so I can tell what program and what version at a glance. b.) I can retain an previous copy of a particular program and revert to it should the latest version prove flawed, bloated or for some other reason undesirable. c.) it usually speeds up the reinstallation process though you may get prompted a few times to update things immeadiately after installation. |
