I think I found the tutorial I used to make this plaid.

I made some more plaids, plus some stripes and checkered backgrounds.
I used a tutorial at this site to make the stripes and checks.
The dark green is R=59, G=75, B=72
The lighter color is gray R=209, G=207, B=210
After I saved this striped background, I applied Simple>>4 way average filter to it and came up with this.
 
I took my striped pattern and made it into a checkered pattern still following the directions at the above link.
 
I then applied the same filter and came up with this. I think the filter adds a lot to the stripes or checks.
I did the same steps with a maroon color and gray. I'll add those backgrounds in a new thread.

Here's what I did using this color, R=102, G=47, B=58 instead of the green.
The same gray was used for my second color.
