I don't drive myself but understand exactly how you feel, not only do the kids here play on the roads they presume that any drivers will drive around them, they don't even bother to move out of the way when a car is coming.
A couple of years ago a 7 year old boy and his two older brothers were playing 'chicken' (running across the road just as a car is coming ) unfortunately the little one didn't run fast enough and was knocked down. The outcome was that this child will never walk again and is set to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
The poor man who was driving the car has never driven since, he is so scared that it could happen again he won't risk driving. These kids don't have any idea what happens to the drivers of cars that knock them down when they are playing their dangerous games.
The latest craze here is if a fire engine is in the area kids will jump on the back of it just as it is being driven away, the firemen can't see them once they have driven off and there have already been a few accidents where they have fallen off, in fact one child was killed, they just don't see the dangers.
When my grandson comes to my house I watch him like a hawk, in fact I have only just started letting him cross the road by himself to go to the park after he said "I am 10 grandma, I do know how to cross a road" ooooops, maybe I am a bit over protective, but he's very precious and I wouldn't want him to get hurt.
What happened to the days when the only danger to a child playing out was climbing trees and falling off.
Thats me off my soap box too.
