And may he be found before it is too late..... Who We Are SoCal Thoroughbred Rescue is a small group of dedicated volunteers who donate their time, care, and funds to the rescue and permanent rehoming of thoroughbred ex racehorses at risk in the Southern California region. We also serve as an auction rescue and adoption satellite for Tranquility Farm, a thoroughbred retirement and transitioning farm in Tehachapi, California. The purpose of this website is to advertize our lovely thoroughbreds that are available for rehoming. Our members have played a part in the rescue, rehabilitation, or rehoming of all of the beautiful thoroughbreds shown in the photographs on our pages. Urgent Search For CA Racehorse The breeders and former owners of a well known CA campaigner, Black Jack Attack, are desperately seeking information regarding his whereabouts. Please click here for more information, a photograph of the horse, and contact data if you can help. There is a reward for information that leads to the safe return of this horse: http://www.sctbrescue.com/Tranquility_Farm[1].pdf |

No, his papers were "white chipped", meaning that his breeders wanted to make it clear that if any owner who sells him has to ensure he is never sent to a slaughterhouse. If no good buyers can be found, the breeders will always take the horse back. But sadly, some owners would rather get the cash for the horse than make that one phone call. It is highly illegal and Nick Zito and his wife are investigating the slaughter of one of their chipped horses right now. They are trying to get these folks banned from the sport for life. Folks go to the auctions, look for lip tatoos on the horses, and if there is a match thank God that horse just got spared. The breeders want their horse back but noone can seem to tell where it went. They fear the worst. |

This is terrible! That's why it's so important that our government passes the laws necessary to prevent horses from being shipped into Mexico and Canada to be slaughtered. Thankfully, the 3 slaughter plants in the US have been shut down. But it's not illegal to ship the horses over the borders yet. I hope they find him! But being so close to Mexico makes me think it's too late. |

Not as of Tuesday. The dealer he was sold to is the worst. They are still looking in all the feed lots hoping to find him before he takes that ride on the "Hell wagon". Please keep him in your prayers as his breeders desperatly want to bring him home. |

We were too late. This is the latest news we have. On our horsey chat, there is a memorial thread dedicated to our dear friends that were forced to cross the rainbow bridge before there time by mean, nasty, heartless monsters. I posted this on their missing alert thread. The casual viewer of racing or the gambler do not or will not understand how horrible this is. All they know is a horse was sent to slaughter. It runs much deeper than that. If questioned, they do not even know any horse from the Bigon's death list. But true fans do. We have followed certain ones off that list from career debut to final race. Casual fans and gamblers just see a few races a year and do not have thundering hooves that match your heartbeat in their souls. The true fan of the sport are the ones that are the fighters for the equine athlete. We are the ones trying to force congress to either upgrade safety, abolish drugs, make whips illegal, suspend over bearing connections, get higher jockey weights and fight for the horses after career or we will try to end the sport. We are here for the love of the animal and not the money. Stories like this sadden true fans as we feel we have let our heroes down. We are not the beer-drinking slobs that know it all. We are the ones that watch the paddock silently in awe as we regard the beauty of the horse. Posted at the paddock forum: Sad news about Black Jack Attack, here is a email I got from Joe at TB Friends, just now. Could someone post it on the DB, we can quit looking for him. %#@$%. With a sad heart and tears, he runs with Barbaro now!
Hi ,
I think you called me on the phone the other day.
Black Jack Attack was sold to horse killer Ron Bigon in March, so that is the end of the story. I believe we all know his story. And, true to form, he has no comment other than he bought and sold the horse.
Best wishes, and thank you for your concern.
Sincerely,
Joe Shelton

I am so sick about this and full of hate for the seller and for the horse killer. |

And irony is these folks are breeders and owners as well as killers. Not one of the experts on either horsey chat can understand that. It is horrible. But word of mouth is spreading like wildfire on this couple so we are hoping they find it difficult to ply their trade as it were. |

Ok...this just posted this hour. The one who posted this has really been a huge help in digging for answers as she has some connections the rest of us lack. Let's keep our fingers crossed on this one..... Black Jack Attack lilmegahertz, KMS, phatbastard, imriledup...
I spent more time on this 'project' this morning and couldn't find much...so I decided to email a gal in CA. She's well known and has a big farm there...she used to stand the sire of one of my mares.
She is going to investigate this thing with Black Jack Attack...his original owners/breeders, the folks that put out the search for him, reward offered, happen to be friends of hers. (the reward offered was for the same amount of tag$$ he was running for at the time he went missing.)
She explained that much info going around the internet about horses going to slaughter is not always correct....which isn't surprising.
Ths gal has placed a phone call to the Bigon's...she had to leave a message and hopes they call her back.
Wouldn't it be awesome if we find out Black Jack is safe somewhere?? Anyway, I'll post back when I have more news...by the way, this gal has been in CA forever, knows everyone. Sooner or later we will find the answer.
