IN MEMORY OF EIGHT BELLES, A BEAUTIFUL MARE IS RESCUED
Yourway Highway is the 7-year-old -daughter of millionaire Tinner’s Way, the last great son of Secretariat, who is fondly remembered in California for his thrilling back-to-back victories in the Pacific Classic. Her dam was CTBA Marion Stakes winner Teach Me. Yourway Highway was bred in California by Harris Farms and Don Valpredo, and started her life with every expectation to be a successful racehorse and broodmare. She raced 8 times and earned $19,000, and in November of 2004 she won at the $40,000 level at Hollywood Park.
We cannot fill in the story of Yourway Highway between her career as a racehorse in 2004 and finding her at a Riverside California livestock auction that is notorious for selling horses for slaughter on May 17, 2008. All we know is that somehow her life went terribly wrong. She was found severely emaciated, and she had suffered near fatal injuries when she was left alone without help to have her first foal. The foal was lost, and the poor mare was found, starved and injured, with no-one bidding for her but the horsemeat dealer.
Enter the angels of Mike’s Auction, Audrey Reynolds and Debra Jones, who together with the Fans of Barbaro, raised enough money to outbid the meat buyer and save the life of Yourway Highway. Kathy Fisher generously transported her to Tranquility Farm, where she was immediately taken to our veterinarian.
In the two weeks since the tragedy of Eight Belles in the Kentucky Derby, many kind people have sent donations to Tranquility Farm in her memory. We can think of no better way to invest your kindness than by restoring to health this lovely granddaughter of Secretariat who was somehow strong enough to survive her ordeal, and somehow lucky enough to have been found by the angels. | | | To support the lifesaving work of Tranquility Farm CLICK HERE. Why Why Why!!! Do some people want to hurt animals and treat them so bad. I can't stand to read stuff like this but it is the facts and all we can do is try and help as much as we can. What a pretty horse and I hope she will be ok. Witty |
