A greeting, a farewell, a term of endearment, a wish of sympathy, a sign of joy.....
 
Watch elephants and you will see them use this gesture.  If you have ever had the opportunity to see dear Shirley and Jennys reunion and their lives until Jenny passed away, you saw them do this often....tender touches between mother and child.
 
Our girls in Sanctuary do seem to use this gesture often.

This is a great reminder of how animals show their affection for each other and how they can give and receive it. God forbid we attach the word "feelinigs". My furbaby, Ragzy will come on the bed.... lightly touch my leg with his paw.... then put his forehead on my leg and just gently push.... Then rub his cheek there...I am not a researcher... so I am of the belief that this is how he shows his love for me and his friends. I have introduced him to the little chihuahua that I walk and he is slowly starting to try to make friends and did the same thing to him. It was so precious to see my kitty rubbing his cheek on that little dogs muzzle.
