The following poem is one that I wrote in 1994 on Memorial Day after attending the Memorial Day Services which the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion held at 8 different cemeteries in honor of the Veterans. The services had a profound affect on me, so after I got home that day I sat down and wrote this poem.

MEMORIAL DAY

As we stood and we heard

Every word that was said

We all came together

To honor our dead

As each  flower was laid

At its special place

A sweet  smelling fragrance

We wanted to give reverance

We stood at attention

So quiet and still

We heard the shots fired

As they echoed over the hills

We looked at old Glory

And oh what a sight

To see her still waving

With all her might

Remembering the price

They were all willing to pay

As the bugler played Taps for them

On this Memorial Day

As a breeze started to blow

Our Tears began to flow

We wiped our wet eyes

As We Remembered and thanked God

For all those who gave their lives!

Dedicated to all Veterans!

God Bless our Veterans and God Bless America!

Loyalkat Sophie

A heartfelt thank you from me to all the men and women, horses and oxen and mules, dogs and dolphins, carrier pigeons, and all other species I've forgotten, for serving our country.

What a wonderful poem sister.  Thank you for sharing it with us.

To every one and everything that ever served for our country,   a great big thank you goes out to you all.  And to my fellow vets and fur vets,  glad to have proudly served with you.

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men and women who died,
who gave that right to me.
