I guess we can joke about it because they are reporting everyone is safe... Can't they make a screen to keep birds, people, small pets, or even my ex-mother in law, from being sucked into those engines?...

Was scary for me because many golfing friends go to NY via US Air and sometimes come back through Charlotte to Raleigh-Durham when the direct flights are full.  Used to be me!
 
Looks like the pilot is a hero for getting that one down safely!

A friend says military plains have screens on them... Wonder why civilian plains aren't protected as well...
