Chinese Pepper Steak

 

Ingredients:


1 pound round steak cut 1-inch thick

1/4 cup shortening

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

4 Tbsp soy sauce

1/2 tsp sugar

1 cup canned bean sprouts

2 tomatoes, quartered, or 1 cup canned tomatoes

2 green peppers, seeded and cut in 1-inch pieces

1/2 Tbsp cornstarch

2 Tbsp cold water

4 green onions, sliced

Directions:



SLICE steak as thinly as possible in short crosswise pieces.

HEAT shortening, garlic, salt and pepper in a skillet; add the beef and cook until brown on both sides.

ADD soy sauce and sugar, cover and cook over high heat for 5 minutes.

ADD bean sprouts, tomatoes and green peppers. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

DISSOLVE the cornstarch in cold water; stir it into skillet and cook, stirring until sauce is thickened.

SPRINKLE with green onion slices and serve with cooked rice.
