History Taking, Patient Education and Buy-In -
Taking a careful history and a physical examination are essential key tasks of the first consultation for migraine. The use of a headache history questionnaire is recommended. The practice nurse can often be used to conduct the history assessments, while the physician conducts the physical examination. -
Patients should be provided with good education about their migraine in the form of advice, leaflets and website information. The UK patients association, The Migraine Action Association, is an invaluable source of information and advice for patients (helpline: 01536 461333; website: www.migraine.org.uk). The practice nurse can often help with this advice. -
Patients should be encouraged to take charge of their own migraine management and buy-in to the course of treatment. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/446557_7 |
