Be the Change
"Believe in your heart that something wonderful is about to happen. "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." ~Mahatma Ghandi~ When I first read this quote, I knew that I needed to post it. So often, we are quick to judge and complain about the way, things are and that they ought not to be that way or this way. Yet we do nothing to make a difference. We can certainly sit at home and scream at lawmakers and politicians talking to us from our televisions and radios and cry out in rage at our morning newspapers when they tell us news we don't want to hear. But how often do we stand up and take a stand or go out and make a difference. How often do we pick up pen and paper or open our word processor or computer and write to those in the position to make a difference and offer suggestions in the manner becoming a citizen worthy of respect? More often than not, we are heard only in the manner of persons in agitated state, not speaking clearly; with thoughts not well stated. More often than not our good ideas are not heard because we ourselves in our distress have made ourselves go unheard and others deafened to our pleas. {{{ When we desire a change, it is up to ourselves to live that change, whether it be in our personal or professional life. It's not just talk; we must be it, live it, breathe it, believe it, and act it. For ever and ever and it will always be that our actions speak louder than words. If we walk around belligerently demanding that there be changes yet we do not live those desired changes, how convincing is that argument we make? {{{
Next time you find yourself unhappy with something, sit down, and make a list of what changes you would like to see. Then outline the objectives and steps necessary to implement those changes. Once that task is complete, find out who the individual is that you would need to submit your plans to, who is the best person that is in the position to oversee that change. Then pick up pen and paper, write that letter, include your plan of action. Submit your suggestions, neatly and calmly, well thought out, and with purpose. Show that you’re committed to your ideas by living that plan or idea. You really never know, that idea one submitted in that fashion can be the next law or policy change. But remember, You must Be the Change You Wish to See! ©2007 Gayle Hirschberger {{{ | | | | | | |
