Hello, my name is Sharon. My husband has RSD and DDD, degenerative disc disease. He was is a terrible car wreck 12 years ago that left him in a body cast for a year. Our family (3 kids) went through some pretty hard times. We suffered right along with DJ, the entire time. His pain would get so bad he would be throwing up for hours on end. My children were quite young at that time and could'nt understand what was wrong with daddy. I did my best to stay working, take care of dad, take care of the kids and house. Fortunately, his sister came to stay with us for the duration and helped me out alot, she took a year off from school to do this so when the settlment from the accident came in we paid for the remainder of her schooling as she was a life saver.
DJ was always very strong and very funny, he loved being active into everything, fishing, hunting, sports (playing them, more than watching). We had moved eleven years after we married, DJ was originally from the northern states!! LOL (private joke) When we decided to move we purchased an old, historic Victorian home that we were restoring. Three years into the restoration, DJ was on his way to show a home in North Charleston, SC and was T-Boned by a semi. Right in the drivers side. When I got the call from the hospital, we thought he was not going to make it. DJ was in a coma, internal injuries, almost every bone was broken. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't think. I couldn't drive. My closest friend, came and took me to the hospital where I sat for two weeks. DJ came out of the coma on his own. But had a long time to heal.
That is how we started the journey that gets us here today. RSD, DDD, the pain, the doctors. It is difficult but we survive. Each day brings challenges. We face the challenges much like we did when we decided to restore the house, with vision and promise of the result. What is down the road is what matters. What we do today, is the important thing. It all matters, the lttle details. The good friends that are made along the way, help. The love that is shared. I learned that lesson from one very special person, a very long time ago.....Summer... That was why she has that nickname... She was always someones Sunshine!!!
Lots of Love, Sharon and the gang
