Cake: 2 tablespoons butter 1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1-7/8 cups flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 2 cups whole, raw cranberries Hot Butter Sauce: 1/2 cup butter 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream To make cake, cream butter and sugar together thoroughly. Beat in vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add to creamed mixture alternating with the milk. Fold in cranberries. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 9-inch pan. Bake at 400°F. for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool. To make sauce, melt butter in saucepan. Blend in sugar. Stir in cream and simmer 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cut cake into squares and serve with Hot Butter Sauce.
