Posted by Noncook, Dani in response to a question about cooking wine from Noncook, Katiegirl:

I would NEVER cook with a wine that I couldn't drink with the meal itself!

Also, I don't like cooking wines, simply because they tend to be saltier than regular wines, and don't have a very good flavor.  Also, if you use a cooking wine and forget to adjust the salt in the recipe you're making, you can end up with something totally inedible!   I suggest sticking with the non expensive wines to both cook with and drink!

I took the cooking wine I bought out of my panty and I decided I'm going to try and return it to the store (I've been grocery shopping there for 20 years).  Hopefully they take it back.  It has not been opened.  I also have a burgundy and a chablis wine on my shopping list this week.  I'm so happy I asked instead of making a fiasco out of a meal!
